My name is . And i hail from
from Ondo State. I am 16 years old and i graduated
from secondary school 2 years ago.
I have a strong ambition to become a world class
programmer, and i just realised i need to get into
practice from my teens to become a pro as i gro
older.
But something has been my hinderance. It is
"Computer". Since the very start of this year i
have been struggling to buy a computer that i
can use to start learning programming
languages, as i plan to study computer science.
But i have not been able to buy it. The reasons
are on the next paragraph.
I live with my mum in Ondo state. And
my dad had since when i was a kid separated
with my mum, as a result, struggling to cope
with everyday. I don't even know where he lives.
I also don't have any extended family i can relate
with.
All i need is a kind hearted Nairalander who can
help me buy a Laptop computer that meets the
standards for programming.
Please help me, I beg of you all.
Thanks.

Okay. Do u have a cafe around u or can u be productive for a while to earn u some dough to buy u a lappy What about going into Uni where u may find someone u can share his/her lappy with
I dont think anyone may willingly buy/give u a laptop here. U maybe termed a fake, that'd hurt and be bad for ya.

How much do you have? If you are really serious about it, show a little effort

i am making serious efforts (been saving for a very long time). i only have #14k

You have 14k? Good. What did you do to get the 14k? I advice you keep doing it and keep saving. Stop asking for financial assistance online. You can always learn programming at a cyber cafe until you get a laptop. At 14 years, you are not yet matured to be on a public forum, talk less of asking for financial assistance.

check my profile, open that thread i created about affordable laptop. Then you will see a netbook and a cheap fairly used pc at 18k and 28k respectively. Just a little difference from your 14k. *cheers bro you are almost there*.

You are jobless. Why can't you just ignore the post? You are looking to be popular again. If you were answering questions on SO like you create unwanted replies it would have been better.

what i mean by being productive is to do something with a skill u have in mind to fetch u some dough. It might be anything buh not sth illegal. If u have a cafe around, u can Try to be friends with the owner and if u have some basic computer skills, use them and freelance or apply to work for a little fee either helping people type on MsWord their docs or getting involved in printing/photocopying. Infact look around u. There should be sth u can tap into. There ought to be someone u can talk to. You can even go to ur alma mater. Bro, there are things u can find urself doin' far better than coming here to ask for help. I wont support and encourage it. Why? If i help u, tomorrow someone and many more would come on NL with the same story that they need a laptop. This would start an ugly trend here. Just sit and make a list of what u can do then post it here. Instead ask/plead on how u can do sth to be productive with ur skills rather than pleading for a laptop. C'mon!!!

Do u know that i'm a well cultured person? even, bofore i could create a thread like this, God knows i've tried my best. If only you know this town i live in, i wished i live in a better town. There was a day i walked a very very long distance to a pure water industry with a stomach, on getting there they told me no vacancy, i have to trek back in the evening. I wrote application letter to a school, they told me there was no space and i was redirected to a far place, "almost another town". On getting there i saw the man i was directed to, there were like five to six students in his school, he told me he started the school for two years, in summary, he cant even pay me. he just wanted to use and dump me. The only thing a young person can do in this town to get paid N500 per day in this town is labouring or bricklaying job which i cant do.

will be 17 in three months time. Do u even think that i have the money to go to a cafe? i have gone to the best cafe in this town, i just wasted my money because their cafe is so slow that you cannot even open nairaland. If i keep going all my money would disappear in a flash, cafe is expensive. Besides that don't tell me to hook up with a friend that have a pc, because it's impossible, friends here don't have pcs. Grown ups that have cannot subscibe and cannot give you their pc either no matter how close you are to them.

Did you write Jamb? If yes, wait till you get into higher institution, you'll definitely find someone whose laptop you can use.

Which of the cafe is slow medoline, dominion or post office? you are saying the truth because I know its very hard to get a person that can release his or her laptop for u to learn even though most of them use their lappy for dj stuff and for playing games, you hardly see a person ready and willing to go into programming.

@Ajibel, thank you for your wise counsel to the Op. Ok, maybe NL doesnt have an age limit rule for users. However, it's not always a good idea coming to a public forum full of faceless individuals to ask for financial assistance. If you have gotten 14k, my question is, how did you get it? Then keep doing that thing until u raise about 30k, which is enough to buy you a small and fairy used laptop. You must learn this lesson now that you are young that the way to success is not always an easy ride. My brother, you have to know that it's only you that can fight your way through to become what you want to be. Life does not give you what you want, it gives you what you demand.

Again, you want to be a world-class programmer, but since you joined NL, you have not opened or posted anything on the webmasters and programming sections. You were busy on Phone sections. Then you quickly remember that you want to be a programmer and came here. And the very first thread you created is a thread asking for financial assistance.

Why not create a thread asking the best way to learn programming without having a personal pc or laptop? Why not create a thread asking experienced programmers how they started when they had no laptop? You cannot just appear from the blues and start asking people to assist you financially. You should just relax here in the programming section and be contributing to threads naturally and with time you may get what you are looking for.

So, go back and keep fighting your way through the challenges of life. You cannot tell me that you have tried all the options available to you and the only chance you have now is NL. With that 14k, you can even use 4k out of it to be going to cyber cafe and quickly learn html and css. Then approach certain individuals or companies in your area and tell them that you can design a website for them. You can walk into University of Ibadan and tell anyone you meet that you can design a basic static website for him if he wants. You can even open a thread here on NL asking people that you want to design a basic 5 pages website for them at 20k. Two or three persons maybe interested.

+1 for Code Eater's suggestion, another alternative is to use online IDE, there are a lot of them, depending on the programming language you've decided to do.... e.g. is www.ideonline.com

It's been a really really long time. Just logged into my old email and found I had a Nairaland account under this username. I was curious to see what's inside the account, only for me to find this. I don't have time to waste on this like this so I'll be very short.

I have a beef with that GraphicsPlus guy, just how stupid can he be? He didn't even open his eyes to read well that I was 16 & not 14 and I did go to the cafe and yes, I had to create a separate account to post this then. I don't even know if you're even reason at all. If I remember my life then, all the psychological problems i didn't even imagine were on me. You may try to think you're reasonable, but you're not. If only I got a PC then, just at that moment then things would have been different for good. Although, it's also good somehow that I didn't get what I needed at that moment, the delay was good, the psychological effects of the life around me was good, years wasted was good. All those things made me rigid in the end. My health is in God's hands.

I did get a PC shortly after, it wasn't the best of times though, things happen. I need to call you a goat, Graphicsplus because when i think back in time, and see myself typing my state out and using the word "dysfunction" to describe me on a public place like this, it must have weighed me down for a really long time.

You just talked carefree the way you liked. Even if you met a teenager in real life, I'm sure you would not help. You're just a depressed person finding errors in people because you think people have to be like you.

I actually wanted to call you a piece of trash, but it's not who I am. I don't really care if you have a changed mentality now, I criticised you based on how I saw you in 2013.

And those those who criticised me and those who gave helpful advices, I thank you all. I can't explain, but your advices where impossible at that time. Word is cheap, action is limited and expensive.
