One person died on Saturday in an accident involving the motorcade of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Ibrahim Wakkala.

Malam Yusuf Idris, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, who confirmed the tragedy, said the accident occurred in Jere town on the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

According to him, the driver of the pilot vehicle died on the spot.
Idris said the accident was caused by a reckless motorcyclist, who crossed the road while the motorcade was passing.

He also revealed that four security operatives attached to the deputy governor sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash but the deputy governor was unhurt.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Tafa Health Facility while those injured are responding to treatment,” Idris said.
