Brethren lets look at at the attitude of the apostles when God used them to perform miracle and compare it with what it is today among our pastors and G.Os.

Acts 3:11.

11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?


Acts 14:14

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,


From this two passages we saw the apostles resisting any attempt to be idolized by the people for the miracles they performed. Peter and John rebuked the crowd not to look at them as powerful men, Paul and Barnabas tore their clothes and jumped into the crowd telling them that they were human beings just like them.

What do we see among pastors today in their miracle parade or charade?

1. They enjoy being idolized and being regarded as powerful men of God, while the apostles rebuked and rejected any form of idolization totally.

2. Today's pastors make a show in the name of miracle service by showing it on Tv, web and in crusades where crowd will gather and watch them as they conduct the so called miracle. Each miracle attracts a thunderous applause from the crowd while the pastors face beams with smiles, walking or running from one end of the altar to the other as part of the showmanship. The apostles did theirs silently and resisted any form of applause or glorification.

3. Today's pastors feel highly powerful and untouchable. After the miracle service their myriads of security men surrounds them as they majestically walk out of the venue while the helpless congregation look with such desires to touch even the hem of pastor's suit. The apostles rented their clothes and jumped into the crowd who felt they were gods, telling them they were just mere mortals like them.

4. Today's pastor collects thanksgiving offering for miracles. Infact they will preach you into doing it even if you dont feel like. The apostles never did such a nonsense.

5. Today's pastors preach miracle as if thats the only and major thing in the bible. Miracle preaching takes a greater percentage of their sermon. In their crusade billboards and adverts they show a picture of wheel chairs and cover the whole billboard with deliverance from this and that. The apostles preached only Jesus and his kingdom. At no time did we see miracle being their sermon, yet they healed people.

6.The apostles and even Jesus healed people on the streets, pool side, temple gate and anywhere but today's pastor must heal mostly in the church or crusade ground where offerings could be collected and the media department of the church will be able to capture the show so as to send it on Television for showmanship in order to attract more worshipers which translates to more money for pastor and his church(personal estate).

7. When the apostles healed, they pointed the people to Jesus but today's pastor heals and points the people he healed to himself and his church.

Now why cant this men of God in all their power and majesty move round the streets of Nigeria like Jesus and the apostles and heal the madmen and the handicapped scattered everywhere?


All these are happening among some of our pastors today because of greed and desire for fame. Did John the baptist not say that Jesus will increase while he decreases? But today's pastor is working so hard to increase while Jesus decreases. This is bad. People should open their eyes and resist this show of shame in Christendom . we have not learned so of Christ. I am proud to say that the Catholic church preaches repentance,love for God and love for neighbors mostly.I am not telling you to come to the Catholic church or not but I am just trying to erase the mindset that you have about churches preaching salvation and prosperity.Not all churches. Cheers

Yeah but you still need to look for the good ones than cutting out from church entirely. Life is patterened to have the good and the bad right from the garden of Eden. As good and beautiful as the garden of Eden was, it still had and evil tree planted there. But God's instruction was/is - eat the fruits of the good trees and avoid the one of the evil tree. God will help you locate the good trees(churches) that bears good fruits. Amen.

That is right, but the problem is in nigeria the people didnot see the good trees(churches) because this fruits look not so good than the fruits from the evil tree. Not always what looks good is realy good.

In nigeria most of the pastors preach you have to sow first that you get rich.

That means in nigeria please give me all your money what you have and god will give it to you back ten times more you give to me.

The pastor in my country preach you have to work hard that you will have a good life.

In my country this means you have to work hard that you get what you want, and not always the way is easy but don't give up, and when there is a mountain you have to climbe on your way, don't give up and god will help you on your way.

@ Alexleo, u are blessed to have the courage to tell this hard truth. As for those still hiding under the cloak of 'not wanting to judge' ,be it due to cowardice, failure to search diligently for the truth or just want to follow the crowd, u salvation hangs in the balance.
Matthew 7:1-2, John 7:24 - the bible never forbids christians from making judgement on issues they can discern, it forbid hypocrisy and ask us to judge rightly.

Preaching salvation has diminished in the Church. What's common is biz minded Pastors feeding on miracle seeking congregation.

Today's so called MOG are all business men they are out to milk their members. I don't belive in any of them. They have brain washed people with their so calle d' miracles'. In the Bible we were told how Jesus Christ went to different places performing miracles and he did this because he felt pity for people. Today's pastors perform' miracles' in their churches, they live in opulence they don't go to the poor or needy, the poor goes to them. They even charge for their 'miracles' I don't belive in them.

I always try as much as possible not to comment on religious issues on Nairaland because I dnt really know nor read my BIble better.

Nevertheless, I do perceive the fact that most of our pastors in Nigeria were forced into the ministry as a result of unemployment. I know for sure as an anglican, some Rev. Decided to go to the seminary because of unemployment and not that God actually called them.

I personally decided to make my research on Nigeria. I found out that prosperous countries, especially those countries that are populated by christians, are not that religiously-conscious compared to developing or underdeveloped countries. For instance, it is not certain to see muslims to start a Jihad in saudi arabia, whereas, it is very much likely that sudan, somalia, iraq, iran and some other poor countries would stick their neck out to fight for jihad.

Why is it that our best brains are being lured to become a priest or pastor in Nigeria and the opposite is the situation in advanced countries?

If the account of the Bible is anything to go by, definitely, there is no basis for comparison between miracles then and miracles now! The Bible made many reports of the blinds receiving sights, maimed having their cut off parts full restored, chronic sicknesses receiving instant healing, and many more! Now, the blinds having their sights partially restored, lame still walking like toddlers etc haba what is wrong with this generations? Too many SINS
