A 30-year-old graduate of Microbiology from the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, killed herself when she discovered that her finacee, who she met on Facebook, had married her best friend.

Police reports claim Nkechi (surname withheld), who lives in Asaba with her parents came home complaining of having a minor headache. Uyabeme said while in her room, she may have taken some drugs and dropped a note by her bed side.

Uyabeme said the note read: “I have gone to rest as I cannot stand the situation after the house I built has collapsed.”

Nkechi was said to have refused to marry the man she met on Facebook because when she finally met him he was in a wheelchair… turns out he was testing her to see if she was shallow.

Leadership newspaper reports that Nkechi got involved in Facebook-ing at the centre in Asaba where she was being tutored in computer appreciation. This was how she met the young man, who disguised himself as a ‘cripple’, but was actually a lawyer who trained in the United Kingdom.

After a series of chats, he asked for her hand in marriage. After their long relationship on-line, which lasted about seven months, the young man, who was identified as Henry (surname withheld), returned to Nigeria on a wheelchair. Nkechi, accompanied by her friend, went to the airport to welcome him, but was shocked to see him on a wheelchair and when he begged her to marry him, she refused.

According to reports, feeling disappointed, Nkechi continued to refuse his proposal, despite his pleas and a visit to her house. She did not listen to that of her friend, either. Her friend, identified as Onyinye, a fashion boutique owner, was shocked at her friend’s decision after pleading with her to reconsider her decision, but Nkechi refused. This, reports said, endeared Onyinye to Henry.

Issues took a different turn when Henry went ahead to finalise wedding plans with Onyinye. They had the traditional marriage and white wedding last weekend in Asaba, but at the reception, Henry got off his wheelchair to the amazement of all and informed everyone that he was never ‘disabled,’ but had to disguise himself because he was hoping to get married to a Nigerian lady who would love him, even if he was disabled.

When the news got to Nkechi, she was reported to have committed suicide.

There is nothing lovable abt dis story, for all I know its a sad one. Atleast the gal wasn't tripped by the man flying in from abroad or his money, Maybe she was taking her time to think the whole issue through b4 saying yes. If not, then why was she kept in the dark untill the wedding was over.. And who knows if her friend maybe pretending to convince her infront of d man but fighting her own chance behind her. (I have once experienced such, but not with a cripple though) girls are capable of anything oh.. We wld never know exactly what happened since one of them is dead.

The story has it that the one d@ finally married him didn't know he was faking the cripple of a thing until the wedding day,infact until @ d reception,I feel she even married him out of pity that her friend disappointed him.
