The fact that Nigeria is lagging behind in terms of agricultural development is no longer news but more worrisome is the fact that a number of us seems satisfied with hearing it, like its just on of the media gimmick.

it will interest you to know that our budget for 2012 was N4.9 trillion. If we spent N1.7 trillion on importing food, that represents 39 per cent of the budget. We invest as much as 11 billion dollars in strengthening the economies of other countries, creating jobs for there own citizens while we suffer same faith domestically.

Among other strength we have includes:
1. 84 million hectares of arable land, with 50.4 million hectares (60 per cent of it uncultivated).

2. We have a whole year of sunshine

3. 230 billion cubic meters of water

To cap it up over 80 million youths (with over 70 per cent of them unemployed).

Friends it high time we all take concerted effort towards redressing this mess ravaging our Nation. Take the bull by the horn invest in Agriculture, start with as small as backyard farming, encourage others to do the same.
