Question About Nigerian Universities by Travelista(f): 1:45am On Sep 25, 2013
Do Nigerian universities often seize degrees even if you have completed the work? I know someone that graduated (according to them) several years ago but they keep saying the university hasn't released their final result. This means they can't get (and keep) a job that requires a degree. I understand Nigeria can be tough but this person has asked for money several times to pay to get the results released and still nothing.
We've approached the matter different ways to arrive at the truth but we keep getting the same answer. Personally, I think the person never graduated and is happy to sit at home doing nothing and that would be alright EXCEPT we are left footing the bill and I'm ready for us to cut the purse strings.

Please let me know if situations like these actually occur and what the remedy is; I hate feelings of suspicion but my instincts are normally right and I don't want to continue to support someone based on lies. Sorry if I didn't provide enough information in the initial post; let me know and I'll clarify where I can.

I am over 90% sure , it is a lie, but rare exceptions could be the fellows department has not been accredited by relevant university's supervisory commissions (NUC).

You can approach the school and verify if they have graduated sets of students over the last few years from the individuals department.

Emiye, you're awesome! Thank you so much for the reply; I've been dreading it but I'm going to take your advice and get verification from the school. Deep down I know the answer but want to remove all doubt. Thanks again!
