How Do You Feel About Dubbed Movies? by Nobody: 6:39pm On Oct 02, 2013 |
You know those movies where they kind of voice over the whole thing? That is, say, the movie was originally made in French, then, they try to replace the French audio with, say, English. How do you feel about it? I've never seen a good dub. Or maybe I just plain hate dubs. It feels weird watching a movie where I can't associate the words and voice with the particular actor on the screen. I much prefer to watch a movie in its original language with subtitles in English. Well, whachu feel? |

If Bollywood can dub their movies like they did with 'LIKE STARS ON EARTH', then I might be a fan! I Religiously hate reading subtitles. I won't be Visually fulfilled! An adage says you can't eat your cake and have it....I can't read subtitle and still get every tiny detail from the movie! |

I rarely watch movies, though I watch a lot of anime. I started watching animes with Japanese audio and English subtitles. When I found out the English dubs, there was something and just not right about it. The spells cast by the characters sounded less enthralling and I couldn't force myself to finish an episode. |

aManFromMars: I rarely watch movies, though I watch a lot of anime. It probably wasn't dubbed right. You know dubbing is a really tasking job....you have to hire Foley artists for all background sounds...you have to start inserting the sound effects and music score all over again. If all these are not done right, the dubbed version will be weird and not realistic. Another point is....It's better for the citizen of the same country to dub their own movies with their accent. this way, they will be able to get the necessary intonations and pitch that will go with the visuals. If Americans try to dub Hindi movies...na palava e go cause |

Me, I can't help reading subs even though I hate the sacrifice of visual details. My ideal movie is not dubbed and without subs. I'd read subs even when the movie is in English sef. But I'd sooner have subs than dubs. |

I also believe that dubbing takes away a part of the story, especially the cultural aspect of the location where the story is set. Watching anime for me sparked an interest in learning the Japanese language. I took this as a compulsory course 2 years back though there were other options available like French and German. Trust me, a little familiarity with the Japanese culture would make you enjoy animes a little bit more. anyways, all these one na my headache. Some ppl just dey watch for tori. |

The cultural background of a movie is a real biggie with me. And I love to listen to tje languages even if O don't understand them. It's how I know the many langiage groups I know. |

Ihedinobi: You know those movies where they kind of voice over the whole thing? That is, say, the movie was originally made in French, then, they try to replace the French audio with, say, English. How do you feel about it? Imagine if youwere german and only understood german. All the holywood films you would watch in cinema would be dubbed in german. Dubbed films are okay, if well dubbed with a reasonable budget. Some Latino soap operas are well dubbed.....cant say the same for old skool chinese martial arts movies!!! However, I prefer subs. Dubs cant explain certain linguistic jokes or connotations For instance; I watch Naruto. American dub version- Naruto shouts "substitution jutsu" Japanese with English subs version- Naruto shouts "Kawarimi no jutsu" 1) The American dub wont visually look good because it is 6 syllables while the japanese one is 7. Naruto's mouth would be moving while the American dub would have finished talking 2) "Kawarimi" real translation is "body replacement" rather than just substitution. In th subbed version, it would be explained as a "body replacement technique". So, one would have a better understanding of the Japanese language and the fighting style of naruto |

Logicboy03:now you're trying to be offensive a·nime/ˈanəˌmā/ Noun: Japanese movie and television animation, often having a science fiction theme and sometimes including violent or explicitly s.exual material You would choose fantasy over reality. |

Logicboy03:I'm bilingual - Igbo and English. Make a movie in any language but those and you'll have to either sub it or dub it. Unless by some happenstance I find myself watching the dub, I'll pick the sub everytime. If the sub is totally wacked, I'll pick neither. That's how much I hate dubs. |
