It no doubt must have dealt a fatal blow to the expectations, calculations and hyper-frenzy of the anti-Amaechi camp which had embarked on much boozing and propaganda that the Supreme Court would today flush out Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi. Port Harcourt, in the last weeks, had been awash with massive propaganda and slogan of an imminent exit of the governor. It was even reported in an anti-Amaechi propaganda tabloid that the governor, “aware of his imminent exit”, had jetted out of Nigeria with his family. But all that ego, hype of some invincible Federal might and outright pride all got deflated by a sentence of the apex court today. But worse for the anti-Amaechi camp must be their obvious confusion in court today as it oscillated from one rigmarole to another.

The Supreme Court adjourned the highly publicised governorship case until November 11, 2013 for consolidation of motions. But even outside the drama of the confusion of the anti-Amaechi legal team, there was no doubt the proponents of the Amaechi-must-go-today slogan had mis-led their followers. From telling their followers they should go, dine and wine against the expected Amaechi ouster, the same camp today pleaded for the adjournment.

George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, the Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, told our reporter in Abuja that the drama by the anti-Amaechi group showed their level of confusion.

“Amaechi’s government is on course. In as much as we may not wish to praise the learned and highly respected Supreme Court Justices, the drama in the nation’s topmost court today showed how confused are those seeking for Amaechi’s seat. The same people asking for time were today seeking for adjournment. Let them be told that there’s no vacancy in the Brick House until 2015,” Ukwuoma-Nwogba said in a statement in Abuja.
