Alleged rapist loses tongue to pregnant woman

Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri are battling to save Chijioke (surname withheld), whose tongue was bitten off by a pregnant woman on Tuesday, while he was allegedly raping her at Umuduru, Akaba, in Ikeduru local government area of Imo State.






Our correspondent gathered that the enranged lady had reacted by biting off the tongue of her lascivious assailant when he attempted to kiss her while forcibly attempting to have sex with her.

Confirming the development in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday, the Public Relations Manager, FMC, Mr. Chimezie Nwogu, an Assistant Director, said that the facility had a responsibility to treat the suspect.

Nwogu said that the suspected rapist was not being guarded by security operatives stressing that the authorities of the FMC would have no other option than to release the young man after treatment.

According to him, he had suggested to the policeman who came with a lawyer from Akaba to take the bleeding suspected rapist to the hospital to make security arrangements to prevent the young man from escaping.

But he said he was not sure if that advice was taken.

He said, “Well, to the best of my knowledge, nobody is guarding him (up to Thursday), unless the guard came in in the evening. There is no police guard available because I had suggested that to the police, because we owe him just a responsibility of treatment and beyond that we will let him go.

“I have told the police officer who brought him to arrange for police protection.”

Investigation revealed that the suspected rapist had reported to the police that he had gone to the woman to collect some money owed him but had his tongue bitten off in a fight that ensued between him and the pregnant woman.

He was, however, said to have been contradicted by the lady and the investigating police team who believe that the incident was a case of rape instead of the claimed assault on him.

When contacted, the police Public Relations Officer in charge of the Imo State Police Command, Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, said that the development had not been brought to his attention
