Its quite funny to me the way ASUU and its lecturers are claiming victims in the on-going strike. The FG is very corrupt, no doubt about that; but what about ASUU and the governing council of universities? What do they do with the exorbitant fees they collect from students yearly? A LASU student claimed he paid N200,000 as school fees; isn't that close to what some private universities pay, yet they are self-sustaining? Break down of school fees- paid by the 15,000-30,000 students in a public school- usually include maintenance, sports, library, medicals, etc. What are all these funds used for? Acceptance fees, hostel accomodation fees, where do these hundreds of millions of naira go? A school cant even maintain/build its hostels, lecture halls, laboratories and its asking for more, what are the guarantees that the money would be put to proper use. Instead they are busy comparing their salaries with that of senators.
Many people have noticed that graduates in this country are lazy and half baked, but so are many of the lecturers. Just like their students, they have refused to read and have actually stagnated with little or nothing to offer the students.
As far as i'm concerned, the ongoing ASUU strike is a case of pot calling kettle black.
