PARIS (Reuters) - The Renault-Nissan Alliance and West African conglomerate Stallion Group have signed a preliminary agreement to start vehicle assembly in Nigeria and potentially create a major Nissan manufacturing hub for Africa.
The memorandum of understanding would see Stallion, which is Nissan's exclusive distributor in the country, increase capacity at its existing plant in Lagos, Renault-Nissan said in a statement on Wednesday.

Stallion currently produces commercial vehicles at the facility, but the plant's annual capacity would be expanded to 45,000 units to assemble a range of cars, light duty trucks, pickups and vans, the alliance said.
"Nissan is preparing to make Nigeria a significant manufacturing hub in Africa," said Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of Nissan and Renault. "As the first-mover in Nigeria, we are positioned for the long-term growth of this market and across the broader continent."
The move comes as the government is expected to approve a new policy designed to encourage the development of the automobile industry in Nigeria, the carmakers said.

The first vehicle to be introduced was expected to be the Nissan Patrol SUV in the spring of next year. The plant would also be opened to French auto group Renault, though the companies did not give any details.
Japan's Nissan is aiming to double annual sales in Africa by 2016 from 110,000 units last year. It already plans to launch the Datsun brand in South Africa before the end of next year.

Where're all those short-sighted people faulting the president for banning used cars?
President GEJ would have made a very fine president of the SE/SS nation.
He's too good for Nigeria.

The best president Nigeria ever had is leading her to GREATNESS. In a few years time, Nigerians will look back and say, whao, how was all these achieved within in a space of 8 years? All that is needed now is for more Nigerians to rally behind their president and support him. Together we can achieve much more.

This is a plus for the current administration and GEJ. However, Nigeria as a nation seem to be dancing in circle without making much progress. We should have gone far beyond this level if the assembly plants in the 70s were sustained and not killed by mismanagement and corruption. We should not be clapping for starting assemble plants, we should be manufacturing outrightly which is what we should be targetting.

True.
Decades of Northern rule have crippled our country.
We should have been exporting tens of thousands of cars by now.

Stallion motors have been in Nigeria for how many years now. Do you know anybody that has bought a brand new car from them?

Brand new cars are not cheap anywhere in the world and most countries have a credit system which Nigeria doesn't have.

The policy is stupid.

I read somewhere that business are going to leave Lagos for the SE/SS and the pipe dream aka ibaka is going to make this happen.

Even though it was a silly chest beating joke, I still laughed anyways...

Obviously, Nissan didn't get the chest beating message...

The new chest beating scheme now is to praise GEJ and his dumb policies for our great progress and development in the SW.

The question is, why is the SW the only beneficiary of GEJ policies? These businesses are not going to the North, SS or the SE because the so called policies applies to just the SW and not other parts of Nigeria even places like SE and their lopsided vote in his favor?

This is why I lmao @ these jokers and their dumb spins and attache by force...

Hundreds of investments come to the SE/SS virtually everyday, yet don't see syncophants beating drums over it.
Secondly,if you think the reason why some of these investors choose lagos is because of ACN,APC or yorubas, then you must be more stupidd than i thought.
And thirdly, lagos is not the same as SW.

The 1st Nissan cars from this new colla with d already minimally active Stallion/VON Assembly Plant in lagos will be out in early 2014, as the Japanese Car Manufacturer makes Nigeria a Manufacturing Hub in Africa.

Toyota will announce its own Manufacturing Plans in Nigeria in days/weeks. Others, like Scoda and BMW, may soon follow........

While 'mistakingly' Watching NTA Tuesday Live Yterday (after a really long time of doing so), d CEO of d Peaguot Nigeria Plant in Kaduna, afta receiving about $20m from d National Automatic Council and employing/reactivating about 4000 workers, said his near comatose Assembly/Manufacturing Plant wud start producing new cars in weeks. Innoson at Nnewi is already expanding- ALL AS A REACTION TO THE NEW COMPREHENSIVE NATIONAL AUTOMATIC POLICY.

#And they as ask me why am supporting this man as passionately as I do!!!
