There is this neighbor of mine who has a 24 year old female undergraduate in 1 of the federal nigerian university.4rm my observation n interaction with this young lady, she seems to be cool, calm n collected with good behaviour. there 've been several times she ran errands for me n even assisted in or two of my house chores,so i realy like her. Her mother is what you would call `iron lady' as she takes no trash 4rm anyone(always quarrelling, sometimes leading to fight). just last night, i heard dis young lady in question screaming n crying loudly n had to run dere to see what was up. On getting there, d mother lamented how d child is not assisting her enough in d house. i questioned d daughter who told me she was doing her best but her best seem not to enough 4 d mother. suddenly, d mother went into d room n brought bundles of bank receipt of school fees she paid 4rm her secondary school 2 her present level in d university and showed them 2 me, including the `allowance' sent to d girl as well.

I tried calming the mother and resolving the issue, but my question is this, is it proper for parent to keep stock of their children's school fees receipt and why do they do it? is it for the prospective husbands to refund what they have spent on the child?

@your story, please finish it, or is that the end?

@topic, I don't see any need for keeping school fees receipt for a long time! But its not a crime if you decide to keep them!

Yes it is proper to keep it. I remembered when I found and old receipt in my pops drawer. It was that of my nursery 3 school fees. The happiness that overcame me that day was incomparable. Though I wouldn't advice parents to use such against there children. Pls keep them.

Onikaluku pelu iwa ti e.

I dont want to say it's right or not; but when a parent decides to keep it, it is not to be used against them in the situation of what happened in this thread. What is the big deal there, if as a parent, you dont send your kids to school, who do you expect to do it for you? Didnt your own parent send you to school? Why is she now making a mountain out of a mole. A child can offend a parent, the best a parent can do is to correct such a child in love and with love, allow him or her to explain why he chose to be disoedient to him and enlighten him on the dangers of disobedient both to the parent and as well as to the child involved, not throwing tantrums up and down on sending him to school, that is like when one is being seeing as an ingrate.
May God help all parents.

@op, from the way you said your neighbour behaved, shes thinking she's is doing her daughter favour by sending her to school, no, she isn't, it is their responsibility, if they dont do it, who do they expect to send their daughter to school for them. Tell her that, so, that she wouldn't continue to make that lady's life miserable. The daughter didn't choose to be her daughter, the mother chose to be her mother. Let the tantrums stop.

Nothing wrong in it but if the aim is to use it to try to blackmail the child when he/she is in adulthood, then it's wrong. It is a parent's responsibility to cater for his/her child.

What of the prenatal visits fees? Baby formula receipts? diaper receipts? Yeye dey smell.
For financial accountability purposes such as taxes, yes. But to harass YOUR OWN child, no way.
