Panaji: The dissent among Goans against Nigerians in the tiny state continues to rise despite the arrest of one person in connection with the murder of an African national. The murder of Obodo Uzoma Simon, who was stabbed to death in a north Goa village last Wednesday, sparked off unrest and triggered a diplomatic tussle between the African nation and India. Police on Wednesday arrested Surendra Pol from Chapora, a village 30 km from the state capital, and a notorious hub of narcotics activity. Pol was remanded in police custody for 10 days. However, a backlash against the Nigerian community in the state continues. Provocative banners reading "We want peace in Goa. Say no to Nigerian. Say no to drugs" have been put up across the state. Late Tuesday, the village of Parra, a popular residential hub for Nigerians in north Goa, passed a resolution at a specially convened meeting of panchayat banning the renting of rooms and houses to Nigerians on a student visa. Sarpanch of the village Delilah Lobo said the decision was taken after it was found that most Nigerians "faked students visas" to stay in Goa and peddle drugs. Sioliom-Sodiem, a coastal village, has already passed a resolution demanding that Nigerians staying on rent within the village's jurisdiction should be asked to leave. The Goa government has already ordered a crackdown on all foreigners living in this tourism hub after a bitter clash between a mob of over 200 Nigerians on one side and police and locals on the other. The Nigerians, who were protesting the murder of one of the compatriots, last Thursday blocked National Highway 17 for several hours, demanding the presence of Nigerian consular officials for the autopsy proceedings. During the clashes, the Nigerians not only smashed a police hearse, but also dumped the corpse in the middle of the road blocking all traffic. They later snatched lathis from intimidated policemen who were mute spectators and began to threaten local people as well as policemen themselves for a couple of hours. Over 50 Nigerians were arrested following the violence. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar later claimed that the murder was a result of a war between two narcotics gangs. The Nigerians said that their fellow national was murdered by the local drug mafia which had the sympathies of the ruling dispensation. Parrikar has also said that all Nigerians with fake papers would be deported soon. The action against Nigerians has also resulted in several ruling legislators referring to them as "wild animals" and even equating them with "cancer". Specific targeting of Nigerians has caused uproar in the diplomatic circles with the Nigerian High Commission in India claiming that the treatment was demeaning, and demanding an urgent stop to the harassment of their nationals. Police suggest that the crackdown on Nigerians would tweak the narcotics industry in Goa, with one of the major drug mafias run by the Nigerians now on the backfoot. www.zeenews.india.com/news/goa/goans-angry-say-no-to-nigerian_888388.html

In the olden days, majority of nigerians who went to india for whatever reason, did not do so with the intention of staying there permanently. You do whatever you were there for ( studies, whatever), round up your program and get out. What on earth is the attraction for you to stay somewhere with a strict caste system like that? And why are you adding to india's 1 billion people? If you absolutely hate nigeria then move to south africa! |

^^^^ Even the South Africans don't want them, haven't you heard they provoked the local SAs to Xenophobia, these ppl are always constituting a damn nuisance wherever they try to settle. They usually always end up insulting their hosts thereby inviting reprisals only for them to play victims when attacked (in consequence). They also choose not to be Nigerians when it least favours them and Nigerians when it conveniences them to give the country a bad name. SMH |

This one collecting good trashing. They probably thought that animal behaviour will be tolerated by people who were out they earn their daily bread. By blocking a major artery (highway), into their town, they were simply asking for it. 1) Blocking an highway is not a peaceful form of protest. 2) Fighting the police is lawlessness. 3)Removing a corpse from a moving ambulance represents a lack of respect for the dead 4)Blocking the highway is anarchy 5)the whole represents a complete disdain for orderliness. As a whole, these guys constituted a nuisance to the Indian society. THE CHILD WHO REFUSES TO BE TAUGHT AT HOME WILL DEFINITELY GET THE MESSAGE OUTSIDE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_pqB8qb48E The behaviour that got the locals angry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_9qifvmTHs The outcome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjfDHXXkb84 |

tpia@: Tourism is a major industry in Goa. Many Hollywood movies have been shot in this location. I almost bought an holiday package to spend the new year there. The night life attract all sorts of people . As you know , drugs come with the territory. I am still scratching my head to understand what attraction this city has for any nigerians. There are not enough jobs for even the locals. My guess is that most of them are involved in one organised crime or the other. |

^^^^^ No need to scratch your head to second guess whats really attracting them there. Just watch the videos and listen carefully to accents, then you'll will know from where they come from, and therefore the likely business they'll indulge and that'll attract them to such place. You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to arrive at the correct conclusions; even the Goan media, police and politicians are pointing to the right direction. LOL at the guy who the police and public seriously thrashed in that video, maybe he can take his case to the international criminal court, with any luck he could even claim GENOCIDE ! 1 Like |

its unfortunate nigerians/blacks enjoy being slaves to other races. you'll be surprised they (nigerians) will still do exactly what the indians are doing there, to their fellow nigerians, in nigeria and elsewhere, all basically because of the inferior mentality and love of filthy chicken change any foreigner will pay them to bastardize themselves and their country. and, obviously this shows planning- the sticks used are all the same size. |
