On the 10th of February 2013, Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations after waiting for 19 solid years. Today, Nigeria defeated Mexico to lift the Under-17 FIFA World Cup. Consequently, Nigeria, under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, has won two prestigious football trophies in one calender year.

The question that comes to mind following this unprecedented feat is, what is in a name? Clearly this is not accidental.

If only the ENEMIES of progress and all those who have made certain sectors and parts of the country ungovernable will sheathe their swords, this same Goodluck will permeate all other sectors and Nigeria as a whole will see faster DEVELOPMENT.

Congratulations Nigerians!
To God be the glory!
God bless Nigeria!

nigeria won the U17 world cup in 1993 after winning it in China 85!

nigeria won the 2nd edition of the nations cup in 1994 after waiting for 14years

nigeria qualified for the world cup for the very 1st time in the history and appeared in USA '94 world cup as a debutant.

Nigeria won the gold in the football event of olympic in the 1996 edition in Atlanta, Georgia state, USA.

Ibrahim Babangida and Sanni Abacha, what a very nice name we have in you cos those achievements weren't accidental!

If only elements of the Bokoharamic APC and other saboteurs will sheathe their sword, the glory of Nigeria will be restored in no distant time.

Luck is meant for lazy and gullible people.
It was their hard work, passion and commitment that payed them off.

The coach made the right selection too.

@Op! Stop being naïve.

your insincerity will never cease to amaze!

2013 is a year of 4 football tournaments(tournaments which concern nigeria). Nigeria won 2 cups out of the 4 tournaments.

1993 had just 2 tournaments(u17 &u20) and nigeria won 1.

1994 had 2 tournaments(nations cup and world cup) nigeria won the nations cup and reached the second round of the world cup. A feat nigeria couldn't achieve in 2010 football calendar

1996 had 2 football tournaments(olympic). Nigeria participated in one and didn't participate in the 2nd tournament(nations cup) due to diplomatic row with the host nation, South Africa.
Nigeria won the tournament she participated in.

achievement doesn't pride its function on what happened in a calendar year but its consistencies over the years

good one tolexander. In recent times, Nigerians seems to have become sentimentally miopic. we can't think straight and analyze issues anymore, because our minds is now constantly befuddled by tribal, religious, and political bias. its oftentimes heartbreaking to see some posts and comments on nairaland

OP I just asked about you in another thread cos I know you will never let this occassion pass you by!

You sure have an anoiting to do the bizarre and seemed to have pushed up the frontier of sycophancy to an all time olympian height

Other commenters have adequately answered you with undoubtable facts about what happened during the tenure of other past leaders hence I need not add more

It is silly acts coupled with your capacity to delve into inanities like this that have made you the butt of all jokes and snide remarks on this forum

Enjoy your moment of self delusion!

There is noting in the name GOODLUCK, the name affect him only not my nation NIGERIA, if truly ds affect Nigeria, then London 2012 would have been the best Olympic outing of Nigeria.
Our D Tigers would have WON afrobasket tournament 2013
Super Eagles would have WON confederation Cup 2013
Super Falcons would have WON CAF female 2012
A Nigeria club would have been in CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE final and if possible win it
A Nigeria club would have been in CAF Confederation Cup final and if possible it also
Abuja stadium was refurbished for 96million naira yet Stephen Keshi criticize the stadium as unfit for soccer
And More
Thanks to GOODLUCK that provide us i better pass my neigbhour so that i can watch my loving U17

All that long boring history just to dampen our celebration? The task before you is simple: show us any president/head of state under whose watch Nigeria won two trophies in the same year. No long story.

Meanwhile, the 1993 U-17 World Cup was won under the regime of Earnest Shonekan while 1994 AFCON was under Abacha

@Op, by the time you lump it with other historic achievements of Jonathan's administration like the BASA Agreement with Israel, adding 20 additional SILOs to the already built 13, handing over power generation and distributions to 15 private firms, encouraging local manufacturing and assembling of automobile (Innoson), massive revolutional developments in agriculture, rolling out YouWin3 for youth empowernment and many more, indeed there is more to His Name, GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN!

Afam4eva banned me for 3 days. He succumbed to blackmail and pressure from Tinubu dogs. I added 4 days to the 3 days ban and took 1 week break off NL. I'm sure Tinubu dogs will be so glad to see me again

Everything in Nigeria is turning around for good. Even the opposition now have enough room to vent their frustrations, courtesy of a decent society GEJ has entrenched. We didn't know he could do all this in his first time. He has done more than we asked for.

I'm neither bothered nor surprised, who was the commander in chief of the armed forces when Nigeria lifted the last U - 17 world cup under the leadership of Yemi Tella??
