I was reading an online news yesterday an most of the criminals caught were blaming the Devil for pushing them to commit the crime and i was like haba, why cant we take responsibiliy for our action, why do we always blame the devil when caught?

Because its always easier to blame someone other than yourself and the best person to accuse of a crime who wouldn't be able to defend himself is the devil.

I think the reason is because as humans, we naturally find it hard to accept our mistakes. even a child that does something wrong will want to deflect the blame to a sibling or someone else. So blaming the devil is just another way of playing the blame game.
I also think a person that does something wrong and blames the devil has not learned from his or her mistakes and will do it again if given another opportunity.
As Christians we should not allow room for the devil in our lives.

Because he cant defend himself?

The average person doesn't like to be criticized or found wanting. And when caught, the instinct is to TRY to push the error, fault, responsibility to another person or event. And because the other person might say it's not his fault, the devil who is always speechless becomes a perfect excuse.

Nigerians have perfected this art of blaming the devil, unseen enemies, witches in the village or some funny factors. In recognition of this, the law focuses on facts and does not recognize the devil in meting out punishment to offenders or law breakers.

The use of the devil or a third person or some silly reason is everywhere. It is used by non performing workers, criminals ( a 65-year old suspected pipeline vandal said he thought the fuel was holy water) and even in government (Jonathan blamed the massive oil theft in Nigeria on other countries).

In addition to those who blame the devil, some people also blame their memory ('oh, I forgot').

The list is endless but the critical thing is the attempt to push away responsibility.

that is why i said most people that are going to church are the people that worship the devil. they deliberately do one bad thing and always blame the devil.

I think its Nigerian culture of always blaming someelse for our action. THIS IS THE MAJOR REASON WHILE THE MASSES IN NIGERIA ARE POOR. Even the leaders wat they will take action for and refuse to. they will say its the devil

People should blame themselves for something bad happened, coz we are the ones with the choices. God had created good and evil (satan) so God can test us and see who will follow him or not, its a test but most people forget that. God should not be blamed not even satan, coz satan just invites you and you just follow him, so who is to blame now. And also because people refuse to accept responsibility for their action and situation.
Don’t blame it on the Devil because he won’t take the blame for you. In the end, you’re alone to face the music.

Because the Devil is an easy prey to heep the blames on!
