Eviction Of Stubborn Tenants - Advise Needed by sammily(m): 10:10pm On Nov 18, 2013
A family friend of mine rented his flat some time ago to this fella but has time goes on, this tenant became a nuisance to the flat. Now the landlord wants him packing. He has giving him up to 6 months notice but the tenant is insisting that he will not leave and he's ready to go to court.

What is the way out of this for my friend, what actions under the law can he take to get rid of the problem of a tenant?

Your advise are most welcomed.

If he is in Lagos, let him go to the citizen's mediation center, or if he is patient enough, let the matter go to court!

Yes, he's in lagos. Do you know where he find the citizen's mediation centre and how to bring the case to them. As for going to court, he's worried that it might take too long for the case to be concluded, all the while he's there leaving in his house for free.

Things like this makes me realise why some landlords are harsh, because of experiences like this with crazy tenants.

let him take dese few tried and trusted steps.
1. Stop d supply of water and light to his apartment.
2. If it is a fenced and gated compound, enforce a time limit dat d gate will be permanently closed at night, dat would be very inconvenient to him.
3. Get a noisy generator and place it strategically to disturb him.
4. Remove his roof, doors and windows as part of renovation if all d above steps fail.
5. Remember u r d landlord and can do wateva u like wit ur house as far as his rent has expired.
Goodluck

The landlord is more interested in means within the law. The tenant has already been served a six month notice which expired last month, the tenant don't want to leave and wants to go to court. Are there laws that protects the landlord in such case because the tenant is destroying his house and just being a complete nuisance to him and everybody.

Thanks.
