Ooni's position is SUPERIOR to Alaafin's position. Let truth be said always. Oduduwa himself couldn't have single-handedly rise to this position without OTUN (OTUN who is presently located at Otun Ekiti). They were all from ILE IFE and some other ancestral Yoruba men. According to Legend Oranmiyan was a physically strong man and spiritual too. He dethroned Obalufon (the Founder of Efon alaaye) who was his half brother and assumed the position of Ooni which you can either count him as third or fourth respectively. Let us not distort history, It is not true for anyone to say Oranmiyan didn't reign in ILE IFE. If he didn't reign in IFE, how is it that his Opa oranmiyan is located in ILE IFE around the place he was said to had died and the written sign on the obelisk which is been translated by some scholars as Hebrew word Meaning “ISREAL" .No part of Yoruba was overthrown by Oyo empire but collected his right as 10% which made Oyo swell and prosperous which I likened to Lagos State of today. Then the people of IFE migrated to OYO ILE and other Yoruba towns and kingdoms that had existed during the rise of OYO empire. It was even on record that Fagbamila, Orogun Ila or Ila Orogun came to support his younger brother, Shango when Shango fought against Nupe when OYO ILE was being built and attacked. So it is a known fact that OyO perfected peace and love among Yoruba nation which is the pride of all Yoruba grouping before the fall of the empire . During the time of OYO EMPIRE, Yoruba people were NEVER sold as slaves. That's why OYO Empire remain Unique among all Yoruba Kingdoms

According to what Alaafin said last month on DSTV , he said That Ife is not greater than Oyo because in 18 century, Oyo-Ile was called old Oyo empire, and it consists of many cities like osun, ondo, Ogun, kwara, sabe in Benin republic,part of Dahomey and Benin city,all these places were under aalafin that time before the disintegration of empire, Alaafin said Ife was under the empire controlled by Alaafin.
But we all know that Ife is the Origin of Yoruba,even my friend from Ife town makes it clear to me that Ooni is the number one Oba in yorubaland.
I don't know much about the history of Yoruba but I believe some Nairalandars can put more light to this.
