ForeWord: This thread was initially created as a response to one of those Muslims I had come to classify as intolerant and of extremist potentials.

I hope he got his answer and others get re-orientation from this thread.

The Question: Who is an Extremist Muslim and who is a 'normal Practising Muslim'

Response:

An extremist muslim is ANY muslim that believes in super-imposing his beliefs over another person.

An extremist-muslim doesn't believe in converting 'unbelievers' through love, rather through force. Force is not always physical, it may be psychological.

A extremist-muslim is of the notion of 'Us and Them'!

An extremist-muslim is ANY muslim that justifies in any way, attacks on people of other faiths.

An extremist-muslim is that person who believes islamic dictates should apply to those who are non-muslims; just because the 'unbelievers' are in minority.

An extremist-muslim is that muslim that would not treat others as he wants to be treated, who wants to dress in islamic way in 'zones/geographical jurisdiction' of other faiths BUT who can not reciprocate such freedom if roles were reversed.
The extremist considers demonstrating his faith a right BUT does NOT believe other should be accorded that right.

The True Muslim, or at least who I will consider one, is that who worships Allah without habouring hate towards others. He/she will not nurse the intention(s) to kill someone for desecrating 'Islam'.

The True Muslim who believes he/she is serving a powerful God will leave God to judge just as a christian would.

The True Muslim will just like my Ex-Gf, being as MUSLIM as it gets (even handshake is a big deal, well, was ), YET not wishing I drop dead because I held a different opinion about her religion. BTW, she never gave me the chance to have second thoughts about islam. I even joked on going to Mecca, well, I was serious (except adopting Alhaji title).

A true muslim is therefore, one who makes you want to experience islam. Now, who wants to experience violence if that is what they perceive? In essence, if all I can see are muslims who can insult my religion BuT responding gets them MAD, would I want to join them?

Once again; A true muslim is one who makes you want to experience islam. The question every Muslim should ask him/her self (just as a christian should also do) is; do I ever wish for those who do not share my faith to act in accordance to it? If roles were reversed, would I be happy?

More importantly, do I possess a non-volatile candour that truly demonstrates the peace and tolerance Islam should represent.

I am a Christian, I believe in God Almighty, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, but my arms are open in embrace to any and every 'non-christian' who WILL Accord me the same respect and tolerance I accord his/her religion.

That's why I have said ANY Muslim who will behave in that way you described is definitely an Extremist, and has got potentials for full-blown violence/terrorism.

But Muslims who do not share that aggresive view (however few or much) are the True Muslims.
But if all of em share that view, *sigh* then I don't know what to say again.

But I know @least Two Muslims who don't share such views (not to my knowledge anyway). . . My very good friend and my Ex-Gf
