Who are the real gamers in Nigeria? Teenage or under 13s
Mature gamers in Nigeria can enjoy what gaming in the developed world has to offer today.I live and work in PH where I also do some gaming business _ROMP GAMEHUNTERS.
The developed world is enjoying multiplayer online gaming on all platforms and this is good stuff and the future of gaming. And of course doesnt come cheap.
I m not a soccer fan and thats probably the only game I don't play but there is need for gamers in Nigeria especially those who are interested in the technology involved to start something.
I play PC games mainly and also PS3. But online gaming is supported on various platforms. I am looking forward to joining someone online multiplayer soon.

I have not really been part of online multiplaying. I tried connecting Call of duty, via my starcomms dial-up sometime (which ofcourse was a big joke) i saw the server lists, joined a game, but that was a s far as i could go. I am planning a broadband connection for my home soon. i hear Vangage or whatever, is good. Maybe someone knows an ISP that really provides broadband in Port-Harcourt. Please tell me.
Second attempt to see multiplayer was via a fairly good connection. Halo- Comabt Evolved. Connection speed on this server was fair. I bust some guys out there in a death-match.
With a broadband at home for either PS3 or my PC the best thing i can hope for is to see some Naija servers online.
I run a game lounge in PH, with 7 PCs and we have regular LAN multiplayer sessions. Joint operations, Call of Duty2, Unreal tournament 2004, Halo,Need for speed Most wanted etc.
If some guys out there are having fun with online battles, lets know the games and platforms. I hope to join soon.

Boy - better start - It's an addictive lifestyle!

So, long and short: I stay in lagos with an xbox 360 hooked up to Swift Broadband. And like 80% of the time, performance is optimal (the way it's meant to be played wink). I play Gears of War with the pros - and the entire experience is beyond anything you've seen. you hear live audio streaming of what the other players are saying from their headsets when one team totally wipes out the other between matches. you can chat on the fly, add friends, see which games they are playing (for instance, you're playing Gears of War and found out one of your friends is playing Virtual Tennis 3 - you simply join him for a match and the system takes care of everything else. just swap your disc when prompted, wait a bit - and you're on! how cool is that?)

The best part is you're more likely to bump into the same players at specific times. So after I hone my skills - i go online and hand/get some kickass

Let's not forget downloadable content (DLC): Demos of the latest games range from 800MB to 1.5GB - which i can download in a day by setting the 360 to download in shutdown mode (like standby but still active). In the new prince of persia franchise, you can download extra playable content after the ending!!! Awesome!!!!

Will post more later. Gamer Card is Carbine Gammax! Signature is below: grin

Mmm. Your question is a difficult one to answer. You need a study on that to be sure. In addition, online broadband for gaming is not yet a reality in Nigeria. It is one thing for a Teenager or child to talk their parents into letting them get a PS3 or Xbox 360. It is a totally different thing to get them to agree to sign-up for an expensive broadband connection along with that. Anyway, I think LAN gaming is a better way to go for Nigeria; However, if you can afford the broadband connection and you're really into gaming, GO FOR IT. It should be fun.

Not so relevant but I started a gaming center in Ado-Ekiti as a side project last summer. So far we focus on console gaming - PS2, PS3; but we also have 4 PCs on a network (Soon to be expanded to cool - Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Source, Crysis, Command & Conquer: Generals, Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars, Company of Heroes, Virtua Tennis 3, FIFA 08, Pro Evolution Soccer, and about 20 other games.

Like I said. Not so relevant to the question!!!
Re: Online multiplayer gaming in Nigeria. by iukpe: 7:49am On Mar 27, 2009
I actually have a broadband connection now at home where I play COD4, Medal of Honor Airborne, GRID, etc etc on PC multiplayer. I also find the pS3 very ready to go online than my xbox360, I have played Sega Rally Revo on PS3 online, Medal of Honor Airborne etc. (just my kind of games anyway)
I really do not have recent xbox 360 games.

Its fun. The Guys on the COD4 are "wicked"

I am also planning to bring this fun into my Game lounge soon to upgrade the Gamers experience.

Re: Online multiplayer gaming in Nigeria. by Phemzy(m): 11:27am On Mar 27, 2009
To enjoy online gaming in Nigeria, you need a very good ISP.

Which ISP are you using, that you know they are the best.

Having your own broadband will be the best, but in case you don't have, what will you do?

@jensinmi : would you by any chance be the guy behind the game centre somewhere between Fajuyi Bus stop and the Friendlies Hotel ? I served there last year and stumbled on one. A small world indeed. (Damn it, used to know the entire place by hand)

@Iukpe: Hows the PS3 online experience like? (details ala my previous post). i opted for the 360 because I figured it's online service (being the first and oldest) would live to expectations (and it has). But I'm burying the thing the minute god of war hits the shelves grin.

So, how is it?

Im happy to see that there are serious gamers in Nigeria amongst the 350million in the world. Dont mind those foolish girls that dump you because you play games. Games are not only for children, millions of adults are playing them. grin grin

Back to the topic: I have a PS3 connected to a broadband Internet connection (Iway Africa), but even though it is broadband I find it difficult to play online with other people because Nigerian broadband is a little slow. Does anyone know of a faster broadband Internet Provider. Iway Africa is 100MB per second, but I still find it hard to play online. grin grin

Kazuya, 100Mbps? and you sef no fear to dey use am? grin

Omo link me up make we start our ISP, you know say like 1000 companies fit dey share that 100Mbps, u no know? See plenty money grin

100Mbps kooo. ptiuuu

Online multiplayer gamers, try to play ur game using switches first (10/100 Mbps) then you'll understand the requirement for playing such a huge game over naija typical 64kbps. Not nice, sorry. The lucky ones, enjoy.

@ iukpe, it's nice to hear ppl r into this gaming industry n are thinking of cool innovations to make gaming more appreciable and ultimately, fun.

Me, HA HA, Im a master!! Ive been playing Tekken since 1998 on the PS1 to 2001 (Tekken Tag) on the PS2 to Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection on PS3. Ive been in this gameing thing for a lot longer than you people. Tekken 1, 2, 3, Tag, 4, 5. I have them all.

My first console was Sega Mega Drive in 1995, when I was only 5. Second console was PS1 in 1998, followed by Ps2 in 2001, and finally Ps3 in 2007.

If you are a true gamer you will stay loyal to One Console and treat it like your father, my father is Sony Playstation. I will never buy Xbox or Xbox 360. Bill Gates should just stick to WIndows and leave the gaming Industry to Sony. Who remembers when Xbox came out! THey had no experience, the controllers were as big as my keyboard grin grin

Nintendo Wii is too idiotic to compete.

BACK TO TOPIC: I find it easier to play Final Fantasy 11 and 12 online on my PS2 than playing online games on PS3.

I use Vangauge broadband connection. Though it slows down sometimes but they tell me its expected to support up to 80KBPs. However when I use my popular adobe internet connection speedometer, I get about 14kb/s or sometimes less.

In any case it does support my gaming anyhow so I am not complaining at the moment though I will want to try something better cos am really sure 2pcs maybe on this connection will crawl online.

I would say that PS3 is the friendliest console yet when connecting online. Though I have not tried Gaming in the xbox360 because I do not have a large collection of games to try, however when I did, the xbox360 didn’t jump at the connection like the PS3. The xbox360 kept trying to get on the Xbox live. While the PS3 simply detected network connection, set IP address and I started browsing or Gaming. Though you will have to register with the Playstation network first.

The PS3 offers good experience online. The truth is, there is always one upgrade or the other for every game to play which makes it rather slow to connect first time. Again you must actually be playing the game most people play to find a running server or a match going on else you just Start a server and wait all day with no one to play with. I haven’t actually connected the PS3 so many times like my PC. For PC games finding servers are a lot easier , more like joining a chat room. That is easy for PCs because some folks just host games and leave the servers running continuously while others host and play .

digidamage, My gamers lounge is at 23 Geodetic Road, Rumuomasi in Port Harcourt.
Do you play COD4 on PC? Currently we have 1 PC that allows you single player on COD4 but we are upgrading the Super PCs to about 4 soon so we can have COD4 on LAN. However we still play the older games COD2, Joint OPS Typhoon rising, Unreal Tournament etc. on 6PCS

You said you were using starcomms dial up for Online gaming grin grin You will get no where like that, dial up is useless, the best thing is to get broadband. I dont even think the dial up cable will fit in a ps3, ps3's only have broadband cable ports, unless there is a new model I dont know about. Only problem is broadband is a little expensive. We pay 22,000 per month for our broadband. (Iway Africa)
Re: Online multiplayer gaming in Nigeria. by iukpe: 9:40am On Mar 28, 2009
That was a long time ago i tried when I only had a dial up connection. I pay 10k everymonth for my broadband connection. N10,000.00 is cheaper by the day if you go by the current exchange rate, naira to the dollar. grin

However Nigerian broadband to me is better described as narrow band.
Re: Online multiplayer gaming in Nigeria. by Nobody: 1:46pm On Mar 28, 2009
Online multiplayer games will definitely be dissapointing in Nigeria because of the internet connection.
Too many people focus on download speeds (not that the isps in naija offer any great download speed oh).
You need a great upload speed to enjoy online games. Without this, there'd be a lot of lag especially when you play people in other continents.
