Nigeria has a lot of cultural and traditional beliefs and taboos. Some are actively practiced while others are dormant and are not necessarily practiced presently.

•For example in the Ibibio tribe using the left hand actively is a form of insult and seen as a form of negativity ,such as using the left hand to give or accept something and even using the left hand to eat.

• In the past, Ladies esp the pregnant women were not allow to look into Masquerade in the face otherwise she will born a baby that resembles Masquerade. but now adays U will find ladies taking a photo shot with the Masquerade grin grin

The taboos are not the same, they vary in ethnicity. Here are some examples:

•In the Eke-Idemilli area of the Ibo land, its a taboo to kill any form of snake.

•The Awka people do not allow the killing on their monkeys, although this is not widely practiced in ibo land generally.

•Suicide in some parts of ibo land also is a taboo, and the family would be the ones to pay the penalty if anyone commits suicide.

•In some areas of Idoma land, when the king dies, its a taboo to mourn at the funeral.

•In some parts of Yoruba land , its a taboo for pregnant women to go near a corpse.

•In some parts of Benin, displaying palm fruits in public is a taboo , rumors have it that one could even loose his or her head.

•Some parts of igbo land forbids eating of yam in the month of August.

•In some parts of Urhobo Delta State, cutting of fire wood at night when the moon is full is forbidden, rumors have it that such a person could become a statue.

All these myths are just a traditional mans theory to find some meaning to existence. A scientist would call it typical hypothesis that can never be proved. This must have been created when man had total fear of the unknown and still tried to understand the universe.

Hey mr op, modify that ur ibo to igbo, and modify that ur akwa to awka... Awka people don't eat or kill monkey because it is the messenger of the gods. If u go to obi imo awka shrine, u will see some monkeys there. They use it whenever they want to celebrate their imo awka festival. And once again modify that ur Eke-idemili by removing the Eke in it. Eke means python, ƧƟ people call their python eke-idemili which means idemili python( idemili is a town at anambra state)

Op I will contribute more to ur story if u modify ur post

In the Idemili area of Anambra state, killing pythons is a taboo. Apparently, if you kill one one, you have to bury it in the manner a human is buried, with a coffin, grave and all that. Crazy crazy crazy stuff.

There's a masquerade in Ibadan, Oloolu, it is said that women are not allowed to see this masquerade...any woman that does this will be drained of her blood instantly grin

Rumor has it that a childless woman deliberately crossed his path one year seeking to die cos she is childless but irrespective of that the thing took pity on her and gave her a baby. I dunno the authencity of the rumor though But I know for sure women are not allowed to see it, ever. You see women running Helter Skelter trying to escape it's path.

Kai, Ibadan oo grin grin
Some people will tell you it's a taboo for you to cross over people's outstretched legs or people to cross over your outstretched legs because the person on whose legs were crossed over will have babies that look like the person who crossed. Crazy huh?

In my part of Igboland it is a taboo to kill green grass snakes and some other short fat snake.
Supposedly if one kills them, they will have to bury them like humans( I will not spare any snake)

Igbos consider it bad luck to go over someone's outstretched legs
If you did that you will have to go over it again from the opposite side to nullify it lol

A baby should not look at a mirror undecided

There is also an Igbo proverb that if a man chops his wife in the standing position and she conceives, the baby will be an imb.ecile grin

Opening an umbrella indoors is also considered bad luck

In my mother's village,a married woman must not sleep in her father's house on an eke market day

In Bende all men are initiated to know Okonko but before the initiation they take oat never to reveal to a non member even their children what Okonko is, and when the enter the Okonko shrine they make a sweet dancing sound that attracts the whole village. Its a very rich tradition and people travel from cities to be part of Okonko at the New Yam Festival. In my village women can't know Okonko till they die.
