Just thought that I should ask this after reading a thread on -CS in Nigeria. I am a christian but I will choose a doctor's advice if faced with a medical condition over a 'religious silly advice'. Same to the other professions. Why do people follow religion blindly and suffer social,physical and economical anguish as a result? Are well educated people dumb,hypnotised or fearful of 'disobeying' the man of God? Who bewitched who? |

In Africa (Nigeria especially), we are inclined to believe and conform to virtually everything the Clergyman says as he is God's mouthpiece (ingenuine pastors excluded here). The pastor is more like a father, sometimes a 'demi-god' (not in a wrong way  ). And any word of his becomes very significant. This attitude, owing to fear (You don't want God's wrath..do you?) or respect. Not mentioning the fact that we've been made to believe we(Christians) are a flock of sheep, tendered by a shepherd (Our pastors) until Christ returns. And as such, Disobeying him becomes unrealistic.That aside, If people take the words of their pastor (a non-medical expert) over that of a doctor, than there is no one to blame but the individual himself. I haven't witness a case where the pastor compels an individual not visit the doctor/refuse medicine, but I have reasons to believe the message the Pastor is passing across is.."God is the answer" . Personally, If I see genuine evidence of that healing or whatever it maybe, then I'd most definitely forgo the doctor's or whichever professional's advice.  N.B: I am not a religious person. 1 Like |

People tend to follow RELIGION blindly.We forget that we need to have a one on one relationship with GOD. Our own relationship...many atimes we choose to be ignorant and many end up dying CHEAP DEATHS. |

By the way, OP, being a christian and educated by chance doesn't mean you have to live your life as a faithless being..! For the records; I could list 5 Pastors who dropped their mbbs for the most noble profession in the world (evangelistic/pastoral) Mind you, these pastors (doctors) have prayed and delivered many sick in the name of Jesus! and hey! They knew there are hospitals around town.. Go and ask Pastor (Dr) and Pastor Dr (Mrs) Paul Eneche for divine understanding. God bless you 1 Like |

farem: 'religious silly advice' will give you an example-'do not undergo an emergency operation until God speaks or it's against our doctrine. does that sound smart coming from a pastor? @ farem,I am born again,but I point out foolishness when I see it. Many 'born agains' are delusional and perish for lack of knowledge-The knowledge here is not limited to scripture only and that is why many are taken for a ride and die poor and sick. Do I believe in miracles? Absolutely,but I am against ignorant decisions taken by some. There are christians who can challenge the pastor in good faith when he goes wrong.Are you one of them? |

its not silly to believe in ur belief, to some doctors, to others religion. Personally I'm not a fan of medical breakthroughs, funny enough I don't no my blood group and genotype, becos i hav neva had needs for dem. The only time I hav met wit Doctors/nurses was for X-ray and drug test and DNA sample. So medicine is useless to my kinds. For religion, I believe that God hav deliberate grace on me for no reason, I'm not too religious, but whenever I pray I get answers, if not immediately ;later. A time came that I started asking God why much attentions on me and why not on people that prays more or those that sleeps and washes the church. Then he took me to scripture (I will show mercy on whom I will show mercy) and (israel hav I loved and Esau hav hated). My inquisitions aroused for more enlightenment, Then it got dawned in me no mater how people pray and fast, if God grace/love is not upon them it becomes difficult 4 answers to request. Now I very careful on Wat I ask, becos I don't wanna ask 4 Wat is gonna bring disaster in future, that is way I kept asking for less wealth. Thank God for my life. 1 Like |

True Acid, But my question ; 'why do we seek solace in religion when the answer could be lying with that guy called pagan doctor or aethist? They aren't the answer,but a vessel carrying the answer.God determines whom to use to deliver,not you/pastor. I am thinking that the 'deluded ones' are against advancement in the medical profession and view anything outside the church perimeter as devilish. Pity. |

pendo89: Yes, I will consider it "smart" if the Pastor is genuine. Pastors are gifted, they can tell if such "emergency operation" could lead to death. I think it all boils down to your ability to determine who is a genuine pastor and who isn't. The Bible should be your guide, don't follow the crowd. And about the ' against our doctrine' thing, That's why I stated earlier on I'm no religious person, for these are religious practices. You see, some "men of God" have so twisted Christianity, propounding doctrines that make life difficult for people. And then again, I'm neither gonna blame nor judge them, it depends on the individual. We all have that one gift; freewill. Make a choice. |

What is this this that is going to bring disaster? wealth? knowledge? Who taught you how to pray a lie? That's not scriptural at all its heresy, mental captivity-a tool of the devil which serves to make you lazy,stop you from working hard lest you become rich.Such people spend half day in church daily 'praying and interceding' instead of joining the rest in the market places to fend for their families or taking a course to study and improve their lives. I call it Laziness camouflaged in religious activities. Look here,everything happening has already been prophesied, so your present acts only act to speed up, or delay them from happening, but you have no control whatsover to stop what God has already ordained. Now get this right 'THE PRAYER OF JABEZ' "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. That's how to pray-GOD ENLARGE ME.SILVER AND GOLD ARE HIS,so Please drop those weak pitiful prayers that don't move God, but the devil. And before you misquote me,God will work on you first before he enlarges you.Pray according to scripture not emotions. |

pendo89: If you know all this then you should know it doesn't take brainwashing or diabolical means for people to exhibit foolishness and extremism. Misinterpreting faith healing to mean discarding medical aid is not the faulty of the man preaching but of the man hearing. Desiring to appear religiously fervent makes people do foolish things. |
