Dude below is a link to listen to how CUT is supposed to be pronounced and you will know why the guy cut the fish instead of telling you whether he had catfish or not.

@ bolded
Yes according to the English man, CUT is pronounced the same as CAT. You are laughing because you are a Nigerian and in Nigeria “cut” is pronounced as “caught” But guess what? the rest of the English world don’t cool

Now listen to the pronunciation of CUT from a talking dictionary of English pronunciation
CUT - http://www.howjsay.com/index.php?word=cut&submit=Submit

Take it easy! You are always too serious with life, this a joke for pete's sake.

LOOOL!!! You're still arguing blindly? My people, help me listen to the pronunciation of these two words and tell me if they're not different.
Cut- http://www.howjsay.com/index.php?word=cut&submit=Submit
Cat- http://www.howjsay.com/index.php?word=cat&submit=Submit

Hahahaha!! You are the one who desperately needs a hearing aid. Like I said, the joke is on you because you keep providing a link that completely contradicts what you're saying. Even the transcriptions of both words are different. How can two words have the same pronunciation when they have different transcriptions? Chale, maybe if you keep listening over and over and over, you'll finally get it. LOL!

I also tried. grin grin

SMH for you!!!!
No further comments! At least I tried bro, I really did!

Those who have ears will hear cool

Cut' / kʌt/
@ OP: please,go and study some phonetics.
The fish seller probably didn't understand what you said because he felt you said 'cut' instead of 'cat'.
The fish seller was confused because he doesn't know the difference between cut and cat.

experimentist: It was in Ghana in 2010 when I went to visit a friend somewhere in Accra. One morning we woke up and decided to prepare a cat-fish pepper soup. Me and my friend decided to hit the market so we can buy the fish and some other ingredients. In no time we got to the market where one very black dude was selling the fish. I asked the dude a simple question "bros you get cat fish?" I said looking at d busy guy. Before you know this guy started cutting some other types of fishes. I concluded he was cutting them for other customers. As soon as he's done cutting em he handed em over to me.. I was like "wetin be dis? I asked wether you get CAT fish?" He looked at me and I said in Ghana accent "I thought you said I should cut('cut" was pronounced as 'CAT') it. I said "no, I didn't say u should cut it, I said I want cat fish) I couldn't help it I laughed my ass all the way home..

Every time I think about this I laff to stupor.

Mods move dis to appropriate section and take it to front page. This is a true story, no be joke oh wink
OMG!
The moderator that brought this to the FP is a hopeless, senseless, tasteless, lifeless & humourless goat.
Last Bullet:

LOOOOL the "debates" if I may say are funnier than the joke ! Anyways, PERSONALLY, the Ghanaian accent is EASIER for me to understand when compared to the Nigerian accent. This is coming from someone who has neither of these accents. It doesn't mean the Ghanaian accent is better, it's just more well pronounced. BTW, I'm Nigerian smiley

Vivly: Why did the seller not ask the quantity or amount of fish he is to cut?

Btw, I still wonder how someone will say 'cat' and the other will hear 'cut'.

Cut and cat are absolutely not pronounced the same. Even within English speaking populations those words would be pronounced differently. Rather than just take the joke for what it is and the fact that some English speaking Ghanaian's pronounce the both words similarly you decide to spin it. There are a million accents around the world. In Ghana you guys happen to pronounce cut like cat or breda as brother. Big deal. Does not mean that the average English person walks into a grocery store and asks for "cut fish". That's just ridiculous.

common sense should hav apprised the retailer that the buyer meant ''CAT'' not 'CUT''

it's redundant to correlate ''get'' and ''cut'' side by side in that sentence.

You 'get' 'cut' fish? As a rhetorical sentence doesnt make any sense.

meanwhile, only peeps wit hidden sagacity n intelligence wld understand wat i mean!
