Very Good, better late than never

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday regretted that nothing on the ground could justify the huge amount of money the Federal Government has so far spent on the Niger Delta Development Commission.

He said since the laxity of any government body would always be attributed to him as the President, he would henceforth clinically look into the commission’s books with a view to ensuring that those in charge do not depart from the conventional and acceptable way of managing resources of the people.

Jonathan spoke at the inauguration of the new NDDC Board led by Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“From three per cent to one intervention or the other, if you aggregate the total amount of money the Federal Government has spent on this agency is enormous and I don’t believe on the ground that we have something to show very clearly.

“People are so inquisitive now; society is becoming more open and of course the freedom of press laws and so on, so everybody will want to know what is happening in the NDDC and it is your responsibility to do things differently,” Jonathan told members of the new board.

While directing the new board not to embark on new projects but concentrate on ongoing ones, the President also warned members to avoid the incessant infighting over money that characterised the last board which led to its dissolution.

He said a body like the NDDC should not go into a voyage of contracts procurement but ensure that ongoing projects were completed to the benefit of the people.

The NDDC needs to be abolished. We already have the Nigerdelta minstry. Please allocate the monies there, and invest on real structures, like railroad, major interstate expressways and a comprehensive waterway channel. Why on earth is the NDDC, building schools, hostels, markets and civil centers

Let's see how you do it. The probe should start from Obasanjo government all the way to Oduah Stellah.

I fully agree with the view of the President Jonathan here.

I only hope that he would back up his tough talk with real action. He should give them clear and 'SMART' deliverables and sack them if they don't deliver!

Fact 1: NDDC has not justified its huge allocations.

Fact 2: All these advisers, ministers and heads of parastatals are mere appointees whose names will fade into thin air with time. This period or administration shall be forever associated with Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

It's a good thing that he's admitting these bitter facts which, if had been said by say Buhari or APC or Soyinka; or even myself on this forum, would have attracted the barks or insults of his paid and rabid attack dogs.

My request is simple: let all these billions flowing and flying around get to the ordinary Nigerians regardless of their region, religion, or political affinity. People are suffering!

It's better late than never...may be there's hope afterall.

But can he go after the NDDC thieves?

How hard is it. Build a big estate for this people. Bring all the amenities to one area. You will save a lot of money.
Jonathan don't deceive your people. You can deceive Nigerians but don't deceive your people oh. Because if anything should happen to Nigeria we would not receive you or host you so listen well.

What are you going to do? Don't show the whole world that you are a coward that you are, if the retardeen GEJ is coming to his Otuekwe, your types would have been removed from the roads and a 100 KM radius. Be guided! >> angry angry

The only/first step that GEJ will take that will make people believe he is fighting corruption is if he sacks Stella Oduah.

Telling us there is nothing on the ground to show for the trillions spent and not demanding accountability, not asking where the money went and who stole or mismanaged the money or even demanding investigation and prosecution of the folks involved = The same corruption encouraging, corruption enabling and friendly Jonathan.

The lazy and incompetent man is just grossly tone deaf..

For the first time I will agree with the President on this. The NDDC should be probed or abolished. When you talk of corruption, it stinks in this Board. I know a fellow from Ogbia who is a former Vice President (NANS). He was given the position of special adviser to the NDDC Director on... The guy became billionaire overnight, buying properties in Germany. Dubai etc. Most of the projects he gets are usually abandoned. And that could be said for other Staffs of the board. They get there to enrich themselves. Looting with impunity since no one carries out oversight functions on them. NDDC is an embarrassment to Niger Delta. Their roads usually access roads are substandard and it gets bad as soon as they are completed.
Finally, the President should be held responsible if the current Directors or executives don't deliver
since he personally appointed them unlike the usual practice of getting nomination from the state Governors.

The Board should be scrapped if they don't deliver.

Rant over!
