Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa. Any of them, All of them if any.

I really am interested in learning a West African language.

I currently am learning Kiswahili a east african language, though I am not fluent but it is a great fundamental language! smiley
Anybody give me a reply back if they are interested in teaching me. Thank You! Asante sana!

To learn a language you must live amongst a group of people who speak and converse in that language. Otherwise you can't truly learn it.

I agree with you to the fullest. But maybe in the meantime since this is Nairaland. Maybe a fellow Naijin wouldn't mind teaching me?

In school you can learn to a certain extent, but you won't master the language

I could teach you Igbo. smiley
We'll start with basic words and sentences. Mind you, Igbo is tonal, hence a word can have different meanings depending on the pronunciation.

Bia - come
Gaa - go
Kedu? - how are you?
Odinma - I am fine.
Nne - mother
Nna - father
M/Mu - me/mine
Gi - you/yours
Fa - them/their
Nye - give
Chukwu - God.
Chi - God.
Ebe a - here
Ebe ahu - there
Aka - hand
Na - and

Simple sentences:
1) Nna gi - your father.
2) Nne m - my mother.
3) Nna fa - their father.
4) Kedu? How are you? You reply, Odinma.
5) Nye m - give me. Or nye mu
6) Nye m aka gi. Give me your hand.
7) Gaa n'Enugu - go to Enugu. Or Gaa enugu(go enugu).
8.) Bia ebe a - come here.
9.) Gaa ebe ahu - go there.
10) Mu na gi me and you.

I could continue if you want more.

But what happens when you come in to contact with Igbo people? You won't speak the language like a professional right? If you want to learn Igbo, live in Anambra or IMO state.

If you want to learn Hausa, live in Kano or Sokoto region. If you want to learn Yoruba, the Southwest is where you need to go.

Fulaman, you are correct. Without everyday environment being fully immersed, my language speaking skills will be limited.
But I donot have money to travel atm.
So why inhibit and put a block? Isn't a natural human need to communicate? English is boring to a everyday english speaker

I agree with you 100%, but I assume you desire to speak these languages as well as you speak English. Sadly, unless you are around these ethnic groups on a consistent basis, I don't see any other way.

cheesy Well fortunate thing is Nairaland is a great start.

It may not get proficient since many people choose english as the forum's lingua franca. But in small doses I might pick up some things since there are Nigerians from all over the regions on here I believe.
I want to coomunicate and make many friends.
