Taking Responsibility To Make A Difference by emmanuelajayi(m): 11:35am On Dec 20, 2013
Making a difference is setting out to do what might never have been done before I order to fulfill what God has planned for you. It is threading on paths that has never been walked before and sometimes, you may need to dare it.

Deuteronomy 1:1-8 KJV
[1] These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea , between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab. [2] ( There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.) [3] And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the Lord had given him in commandment unto them; [4] After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei: [5] On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying, [6] The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: [7] Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates. [8] Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

The book of Deut is a compilation of the speeches of Moses towards the end of his life: it recounted all that had happened since the children of Israel left Egypt:

the above passage is a recap of what happened in Num 13 n 14.

We discovered that the journey to promise land was 11 days to get to Kadesh-barnea from Horeb. Why then did an 11 days journey turn to 40 years? A lot of the now Israelites (Christians) experiences same thing the Israelites of old because we do same errors they made.

God already gave the promise land but the people suggested to Moses in v22 to go and spy the land. Why did they doubt God at this stage of their journey after seeing all the wonders from Egypt through Red Sea and unto Horeb where manna and water was made available. Why the hesitation?

The implication of sending spies was the result of the evil report which they brought that caused the delay of a whole nation on the account of 10 of the 12 spies. As a result of this, a trip of 11 days became 40 years.

When Moses began the rundown, he said Deuteronomy 1:6 KJV
[6] The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:

The deliverance in Egypt was not an end in itself but a means to an end: Coming out of Egypt was to take them into the promise land in which so many challenges came up even before they were released and even afterwards. Sometimes, the promise may seem impossible but God has spoken that there is a Canaan. The trip to Canaan May contain some times of hunger, thirst, red sea, confusion, hopelessness amongst others but the testimony of The Lord is sure to bring it to pass.

God gave Canaan already but the people said "even-though we have seen so many miracles, we still need to confirm because this is too dangerous to be true" Consequently, something held them back.

What is holding you back?
1. it could be lack of faith
2. lifestyle
3. utterances
4. associations
5. habbit (besetting sin)
6. spiritual ail (dryness)
7. indecision Acts 20:9 KJV
[9] And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. (He was neither here nor there sitting on the fence)
8. procastination
9. unbelief
10. fear
11. Unforgiveness

You alone know your mountain - step out of your circumference that only you are responsible for. You can be prayed for but you also need to do your bit to bring your prayers home.

When God speaks thru His word or His servants or by any acceptable means, He has started something but if you aint seeing the move yet, it's because you ain't working yet.
You may then be that one who has chosen to remain on that mountain.

Deliberately move from your mountain against all odds if you are convinced that is the will of God, set out for it.

Some mountains maybe a need to learn a trade, go to school, stop an habit, disassociate ur self from some friends, it could be to cultivate the act savings: these decisions maybe unpalatable to your present issues but it's critical so that God can take you to that promise land and fast too

Covenant is an agreement where God is constant. so, you have to fulfill you own part. probably you havent fulfilled that agreement of your covenant. All the Israelites needed to do was just follow through to the Promise Land.

Instances of covenants:
a. blessing: gen 12:1-2
b. health: proverbs 3:7-8
c. longevity: ps 91:1&6
d. prosperity: mal 3:8-12
e. eternal life: john 3:16

Everything has a price but for laziness of sorts, a lot of Christians settle for "just ok" nobody wants to take that extra step to make a difference.

You alone know your mountain: You need to take that decision and dont sit on the fence. A lot of us want a quick fix, looking for alternatives and once we see the Red Sea, we tend to want to go back to Egypt.

Luke 9:62 KJV
[62] And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Wife of Lot probably wasnt decided. she d preferred to stay back

What is that mountain and what is that thing holding you back? Identify it and desire to step out of it with the help of God.

You may need to take a critical decisions that may seem insane like the Israelites hoping to take the land from the giants.

An example:
Eagle lives for 70 yrs but has to take a decision to live for another 30 years when he is 40. that painful decision will take 150 days.
Flies to a high mountain,
a. hits d beak till it falls off
b. new 1 grows and uses it to cut its too long claws
c. new 1 grows and uses it to trim its feathers
d. after the growth of which he is then ready to fly again.

If the eagle had to take that critical steps, what is holding you back. Some of us consider that 150 days and kiss the 30 years good bye.

See, its possible you think you have the peak but there is still more:
Mt Sinai had plenty stories (they got 10 commandments, Moses saw the glory of God etc) but God said there was still a place called More.

The inheritance of the children of God is God himself.

Some people may be saying you don't have an idea of what I'm going thru.
Jeremiah 33:1-3 KJV
[1] Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, [2] Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name; [3] Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

God wasn't intending to discuss Joshua's 'now' in the prison but wanted to tell him about the future. Not the immediate problem.

The advice to search the land came from the people and Moses said it pleased him. Who are you listening to? Who are your advisers? Who are your associates?

How do i then make this difference?
1. We must consciously and deliberately decide to move from our mountain
Daniel 1:1,3-4,8 KJV
[1] In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. [3] And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes; [4] Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. [8] But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. [9] Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

Daniel didn't eat the King's meat because he knows the king's food is first sacrificed to idols but for some of us, we may regard as a testimony to be honored with the kings meat.

Prodigal son thought he was ripe to be on his own but afterwards, he took a critical decision to go back even though he wasn't expecting acceptance. (Luke 15) These decisions are not cheap but critical like the eagle's.

Joshua and Caleb made a conscious decision not to go with d opinions of others and they were d only ones they made it thru to the promise land. The 10 evil report bearers's generation died before they could moved on. Your association can cause your 11 days trip to 40 years.

2. Effective Prayer
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 KJV
[9] And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. [10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me INDEED, and ENLARGE my coast, and that thine hand might BE WITH ME, and that thou wouldest KEEP me from evil, that it may NOT grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Hannah and Penaiah: for Hannah's style of prayer to have been noticed by Eli, it was a needful cry. Who knows d names of Penaiah children? so some of the things that bother you are insignificant.

At the place of prayer is direction and guidance.

3. Take that bold step to bring it to past. That responsibility is no longer with God but you. The ability to take that critical decision is what makes the difference. That extra step, perseverance and discipline while looking unto God.

Prodigal son said, I will arise and he arose.

Conclusion
If you want to make a difference, go to the one that makes a difference. Seize looking at environment and men, go the person who made and sustains the environment and man.

Prayers:
Lord, show me what to do to move from that mountain (u know d mountain) and take me to the land where you have promised me.

Lord give me the strength and power to make that critical decision and to take a bold step and move from this mountain in Jesus name.

Lord guide me through my decisions and steps in order to make that responsibility to make the difference

Take that critical decision. living for Christ is the 1st and most important decision....
