I think you've given solid advice here, much appreciated.

What I've done (taking a cue from the way you identified & characterized the culprit,) is to just use link2sd to freeze the Media Storage app. This way, I can reverse the process if I link any resulting bad side effects with the freeze strategy.

And I think the key for me was that you also articulated what the Media Storage app is all about.

This method is like trying to kill a mosquito with a machine gun. Just root ur phone & download droidwall, then use it to block any apps that consume ur data from accesing the internet. Avast antivirus has this firewall feature too.

the problem with most apps that blocks internet acess by other app is that use the blocking app for too long and it wont work again...... As in the app you are trying to block will still find a way to use the internet
