EFCC says it was responding to petition
against Speaker
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, has arrested the
Speaker of the Kano state House of
Assembly, Gambo Sallau, and seven other
members of the House.
Confirming the arrest, the Spokesperson of
the EFCC, WIlson Uwujaren, said the
lawmakers were invited by the commission
to answer questions following a
petitionagainst them.
“It is true they were invited for questioning
in respect of a petition against them for
abuse of supplementary processes,” he
said.
Mr. Uwujaren also said the Speaker and
the other officials responded to the
Commission’s invitation on Monday at its
Kano Office. He however said, the
lawmakers were being transferred to the
Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja as
the petition was received in Abuja.
Although Mr. Uwujaren did not specify the
number of the Assembly officials invited, a
source at the Assembly informed
PREMIUM TIMES that seven other
lawmakers were arrested alongside the
Speaker.
A source in the Kano Government said the
arrest of the lawmakers has stalled the
plan by Governor Musa Kwankwaso to
present the state’s 2014 budget to the
Assembly.
Governor Kwankwaso is one of the five
PDP governors who recently defected to
the opposition All Progressives Congress.
The arrested lawmakers are said to be
allies of the governor.

Charity begins at home...if indeed GEJ wants to fight corruption then he should start with his people(fed govt), madam bullet proof, Nnpc, pension etc. Why won't we complain when its selective nd unfair

The state the gets the highest non oil revenue in nigeria, lied to most on the census, and has dedicated it's self to subverting the work of a democratically elected president of this great country should not be treated as anything but a den of deceit and corruption.

why will the corruption be fought only in states he has political issues with it's governors like kano,jigawa etc does it mean governors of akwa ibom,bayelsa,benue,kastina and their law makers are saints??,this is clearly a political witch hunt!!

My own is that one week to the end of the year, they are passing a 2013 supplementary budget of N28B, I mean 8days, and the budget went thru 1st, reading, 2nd reading and was passed in one day, no one asked what the money is meant for. What are dey gonna use 28B to do in 8days or has the money being spent already and they want to cover up? And nobody is shouting corruption? EFCC steps in to save the day and we are saying witch hunting? HABA!

Less than 10 days for this year to end,Kwankwaso presented a supplementary budget of N25bn and the state house of assembly hurriedly approved it...Is it wrong for the EFCC to invite them over and ask why?
