At the moment Liverpool are flying
high after high-scoring victories
against teams like Norwich City,
West Ham, Tottenham and Cardiff,
but will have to finish the year
with two challenging trips to
Manchester City and Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers will be looking to
topple the rivals in Boxing Day’s
clash at the Manchester City
Stadium to ensure that Liverpool
move into arena with their heads
sky high on Sunday against
Chelsea.
The opposition
Liverpool are on roll but
Manchester City are also in very
good form after their recent
triumphs against both Bayern
Munich and Arsenal. City have
also claimed victory in all of the
eight Premier League games
played at home turf so far this
season.
Man City will be moving into the
game with sweet memories of 4-2
victory over Fulham at Craven
Cottage on Saturday afternoon still
fresh in their minds. However,
absence of leading scorer Sergio
Agüero could become a setback for
City. A leg muscle injury has ruled
Agüero out of game until the end
of January.
Last year’s encounter between
Man City and Liverpool at the
same venue ended in a 2-2 draw.
Team news
Liverpool will be banking most on
in-form Luis Suarez, who have
scored 19 goals in his opening 12
games of the campaign. Without
Gerrard and Sturridge, Jon
Flanagan is expected to continue
at left-back. Mamadou Sakho is
also becoming increasingly
confident each passing day and is
almost sure to be ahead of Daniel
Agger in central defense for post-
Christmas footballing feast.
