I guess those that came up with the term were not aware that there's a term called "South Central" just like "North Central". We sha thank God that they did not opt for "South Middle".

I fin all these regional nomenclatures embarrassing and an aim to divide Nigeria along tribal lines. I don't see How Anambra state is more South-Eastern than Cross-River or Akwa-Ibom or why Rivers state is in the South-South but not Abia state.

You dey see yourself for outside?? If we are going by that, where do you think some part of Kogi should be?? Where do you think Edo should also be??

Till now, some people still mistake Kaduna for either NC or Nw or so!

It's amazing how Onitsha is SE and Asaba is SS. Makes me laugh when these free-education people talk about tribal geography.

I think we need to create North North region in the north and South Central region in the South and then get rid of the states.

Obiagelli: the shape our landscape is evident in the map.
I don't understand you.
Do you mean our landscape is shaped in such a way that there is a south south but no north north?
By the way I've noticed that it is only in Nigerian geography where a term like ''south south'' exists.
I have my suspicions, but I need to hear from others.

They're the Core North, and have Boko Haram/Sharia Governors, Boko Haram Senators, Islamic Bank CBN Governor, and even Boko Haram Generals.

There is a reason why some countries have just north and south regions, it is usually categorised from the shape of their maps, but if you question is along ethnic line then I am the wrong person.

You guys should take a look at this map and tell me how Imo and Enugu managed to find themselves in South East while Cross river and Rivers are in the south south. This is hilarious.

Edo on the left and Cross River on the far right are both classified as South South, while Imo and Enugu in between them are classified as South East, how does that work?

There should be South-North, Middle-East, Far-West, Near-West, South-south regions in the southern part of this country.
Then the northern part will include North-South, North-North-East, North-North-West, North-East-South,North-West-Middle and Central-North-Middle regions.

If you crazy enough to counter this, then post yours with map.

lol

Now I understand, you want igboland to be called south south. It won't matter anyway, there would still be something to differentiate who's an oil producer and who isn't.

Unbelievable the kind of people you come across on NL shocked firstly, locate Nigeria on the globe by a way of latitude and longitude, then find the REFERNECE NORTH and read it down to Nigeria, you would see that the typical North, East, South, West does not form a cross looking upwards rather the cross is at an angle, hence the reason you have Edo, delta in South-South and IMO and Enugu in South East. In fact, Edo is more mid west than South South.

In all scope of geography, only in Nigeria that I had heard a place called South South. Good question, why not North North.

Going by the four known cardinal points, CRS and A Ibom are more South Eastern than Enugu and Anambra, and indeed they were known by that as a state in the 1970s.

If not for the politics of control of oil resources and the need to ensure that Igbos are kept permanently down, the amorphous SS, which is neither contigous nor consanguine, ought not to be a geo-political entity. And several scholars continue to question the validity of that creation.

This is close to the suspicions I have. In the absence of any reasonable explanation, I might have to conclude that it is true.

No, North Central are not home to willing minorities. It has some military heavyweights during the partition of Nigeria into states.

Regional classification are usually based on cultural affinity than cardinal points on the Map

The North Central is an area of Northern minorities and the South South is an area of Southern minorities

If you check the map of USA a state like Ohio is called Midwest. Now ask whats Western about the geographical location of Ohio

Wow! The state is no way near the middle talkless of west. This should clear this up, only that our eastern friends already know this but they covet the oil and will be willing to jettison common sense for gain.
