Na me talk am ! And I no bring pics or evidence. That is up to you to decide. The Lagos state govt. is just better than other states. In fact, there is only so much a state govt. can do in a centralized power structure like Nigeria's but despite the progress we've recorded under Tinubu (who Fashola is a godson to and an extension of) what do we still have:

* On the whole, a very poorly planned urban centre. Estates are the exception to this but the prevalence of stalls or shops besides open gutters (attimes sewage). The almost useless ministry of physical and town planning which couldn't curtail collapsed buildings last year. Need I say more.

* Lack of cheap mortage or low-cost housing. At the risk of underestimating, it appears since Tinubu has made nonsense of Jakande's example in this regard. For those who don't know, Jakande is said to be the brains behind the forgotten low-cost estates at Ajah which are STILL uncompleted projects. We know Fashola for harassing slum dwellers, not a few were hurt by his policies. Slums will always remain as long as economic exploitation and the rich-poor gap remain. They are a symptom that society has problems, not just problems. I find it funny that LASG claims to have made housing accessible whereas it obvious the LASG has built few, if any, low-cost housing schemes.

* Roads still poor. Yes, a lot has been done by LASG in this regard but em not much. I say so even tho' there has rehabilatation of College road (linking to Iju road) in my area. Lagos has a dense network of roads given its population. And many are still in bad shape, especially those linking main roads, or those on the outskirts of the state. There are many. Even TVC_which Tinubu owns_shows them in a grassroots governance program.

* State schools still in bad shape. In truth, the state has a looong way to go in this area. Teachers still receive paltry sums. I was discussing last year (yesterday) with a former lesson teacher of mine. She said some new teachers get paid #10-15k monthly. Her school she teaches is not in good shape. In fact, forgetting the Millenium school at Oshodi which is airbrushed to show state achievements, and some haphazard renovations here and there, some even by concerned citizens. The state school infrastructure is still comatose. And BTW why did LASU students have to still be on strike despite the fact Fashola increased their fees ? That's mismanagement on LASG's part.

* Under-performing waste management. Lagos state has done well under Tinubu waste-wise. Tho' I wonder whether that is part of whitewashing the state. It's like what I did as a kid when told to sweep when I was lazy too. I will sweep the dust and hide under the carpet. Hide trash behind or under chairs etc. Just to make it seem neat when no real cleaning was done. Waste management is important because it keeps places clean. Poor waste management has resulted in flooding due to drainages blocked with waste.

PS: People have said the salary of teachers is higher than the one I stated. My mistake.

Mortgages are not under the control of the state government.
Banks grant mortgages (in nigeria's case loans).
The federal government via the CBN control the banks .
So,that is federal responsibility

.on the urban and regional and planning , you are partly right, however blaming Fashola is not understAnding the problem.
Lagos was almost already fully built up before Tinubu and Fashola.
The continuing influx of poor migrant into Lagos and SW has made it almost impossible to do much about this problem because it will cause massive dislocation and inconvenience.
Also the LGA council are not up to scratch.this
Is suppose to be a local government problem.
This is why Fashola has reiterated that his mega city policy would build around the mess for now ,rather than wheel out the bulldozers .

Private estates and their mortgage aside. My understanding is that some estates were built by LASG under public-private partnership, in which the LASG contributed a share. Forget federal mortgage, we no get am ! I was hoping for a Jakande-like estate. Cheap and easy. A number of low cost housing estates still house those on the lower rungs of the middle class and some poorer ones. More would be good.

Yes. I know the preceding military administrators did badly amd your point on it dependent on LG is right. That's why I said one can only do so much under a centralized power structure. But this is no excuse. The SG shouldn't wait for FG to start solving the problem by containment. In other words, prevent it from getting worse by ensuring recent and future buildings are approved with the city's plan which they must have.

You are right but until we get there and other states start pulling their own weight,we would have to make do with what we have.
I saw a video on YouTube from the perspective of a landing plane.
There are hardly any greenery in Lagos.
It is simply a concrete jungle.
But one day,the Lagos master plan will be dusted and reimplemented.
I remember the riots/ resistance of 1983 when jakande wheeled out the bulldozers and tried to enforce that masterplan .
I remember because it was my first taste of teargas.
On the Lagos housing schemes,I am of the opinion that those attempts should be scraped.it is but a tiny drop in the ocean when compared with what the state government had to cope with.
Apart from regenerating places like makoko,I believe Fashola should not bother with building housing because the resources in the hands of the government is simply not enough .
I think the state should concentrate on regulating the land development ,planning ,zoning, allocation, sales and exchange system
Stuffs like mass housing can only be done with federal support.
Like building 100,000 units at a go.

I still say the problem of Lagos is excessive immigration into the state even nyc with it's superior infrastructure are about just 19million, hence the need for other regions of the country to develop to stop the immigration or even reverse it

And as for housing the future is in high rise buildings unfortunately this requires constant power which we do not have, ultimately corruption is our biggest problem which leads to every other problem

Constant power, excellent public water and sewage service which we yet have. It's things like this I suppose has left many high rise buildings in Lagos Central Business District deserted. FG replication apart.

No. We don't need federal support to do mass housing. The monies put to the likes of the suspension bridge and the LCC saga could have funded some low-cost housing estates and done some renovation in extant ones. Fashola could do this under his PPP drive; using moral suasion since it may not be profitable or profitable in the short/medium term. And when I say low-cost, I also mean low-cost of construction, scale of materials bought and cheap alternatives (which won't over-compromise) quality) of building materials or methods could be used. And again I suggest the LASG focus on containment with regard to physical planning.

Fashola, Governor from the rich, for the rich and by the rich

all hype, the only major road project is tolled, the only major bridge is tolled and you expect me to praise him for something am paying to use

recently a thread showed all of nigeria's nice looking roads, and only tolled one was in Lagos and only in Lekki and nowhere else, why did fashola not toll a road in Ajegunle

people praising Fashola are very shallow people who dont ask themselves questions

you use public funds to build a road and bridge and you toll the public again
Nothing like water, good drainage, e.t,c or reasonable schools just media projects and open gutters enriched with dirt unimaginable - the only completed school is the brown painted one agbameta posts from 100 different angles and dances around woshiping his paymaster
shocked shocked

Goodluck to Lagos with your milking Tinubu and his houseboy, he can fool them but not me

the road below is just off the tolled lekki-epe and its begging for renovation just less than a KM from the toll gates but the government cant see it, cause there is no money to be made from renovating this.
when the average lagosian buys water to bath and wash, later some one will come online and fool himself/herself praising the scam govt

and a street in Uyo with good drainage and daily sweeping by the ministry of environment , a 35,000 seat stadium nearing completion- but we dont make noise - agbameta and his cohorts call Uyo a village is this not a shame

When i saw "City men" celebrating the turning on of streetlights i was laughing cause "villagers" have been used to it since 2008, a baby born in uyo in the last 5 years is used to streetlights

Fashola's government can be likened to the English national team=Hype. He may be among the best governors in a country where mediocrity has replaced excellence but that doesn't mean that his mediocrity would be celebrated by all.

That the op has raised this discussion doesn't mean that his state governor who I think is oshiomhole is better off. Fashola is the topic of discussion here and we should analyze it with an open mind devoid of any bias.

This op should be commended because what I can see is Objective Criticism unlike most folks who resolve in name calling even as calling the President a retard.

"You can fool some of the people some of the time and all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time". Abraham Lincoln.

I did not say it, Lincoln did and probably he did not know Fashola as at when he said that.

On the whole, a very poorly planned urban centre &&&&& Lack of cheap mortage or low-cost housing.

How do you plan an urban centre in a place as snarly populated as Lagos? The only option is to create new cities to decongest the old ones for renewal. Even with that, based on demand, supply and cost, how many Lagosians would be able to afford to live in the new cities? The only option is for the FG to build new cities, to decongest Lagos - or other state governments, to roll their sleeves up, and start working - so as to enable reverse migration from Lagos.

Roads still poor.

Population factor again and excessive pressure on infrastructures.

State schools still in bad shape.

Population factor coupled with demand and supply, and the need to meet the demand, despite insufficient funds. That would obviously rub off on the quality. The only solution is for more Nigerians to start paying taxes.

PS: Not making excuses for Fashola. He is just a one-eyed man in the land of the blind. And personally, he's an extreme capitalist, an ideology I don't agree with. However, he's one of the best in Nigeria. The Osun governor is my guy - I like his ideology.
