haxorDelite: 3 Things You Dont Know About Your Vlc Media Player

VLC is the most popular media player because it plays everything of almost every format, but VLC can do a lot more things of which a normal user does not know about.

1) Rip DVDs: You probably would never use it when there are better DVD rippers available, but it helps to know that you can in fact, get a decent quality DVD rip with VLC.

To rip a movie follow these steps:

Go to the Media menu and choose Convert/ Save.

Click on the Disc tab.

* Here you can adjust the Starting Position and rip only specific titles or chapters.
* Enter file name making sure to end with .MPG, and start ripping.
* Click Save.
* Its done!

2) Record videos:
With the new VLC, you can record videos during playback. The record button is hidden by default. To see it, click on View -> Advanced Control. The record button will appear.

Clicking on the button while playing a movie or video will start recording. Clicking again will stop the recording.

3) Convert Audio and Video formats:
In VLC you can convert video and audio files from one format to another. Several different formats are supported like MP4, WMV, AVI,OGG, MP3 etc. To access the converter:
* Go to Media -> Convert/Save.
* Load the file you want to convert using the Add button and click Convert.
* Now choose the output format and output file location.

Nope. VLC as far as I know has only ripping capacities (it can get media files from ur discs to ur system). It does not have burning capacities (writin media files from ur system to ur discs).

Get a software like Format Factory dat can enable U convert d files to mp4 and merge/join them (if U want to) and use Roxio or Nero burner to do d burning.

Personally, I think wat would make Vlc peeeeerrrrfect would be the ability to source for subtitles for movies from a subtitle database like subscene.com, opensubtitles.org etc. To d best of my knowledge, only Smplayer has this ability and dat is basically wat I use to get subtitles for movies.
If U want to get d best from ur vlc, update to d latest version. D interface is better & it is easier to use its streaming capacities

no it does not have the capability to make a video CD , you can use NERO or SONICMYDVD for picture album or any video cd u would lyk to create..

based on what you said I think this is a perfect answer

It is also easy to add
subtitles to your
video files too - just add the
SRT file to the folder where
your video is kept, and it will
automatically play with
subtitles.ENJOY

You can also stream with it because it also offers superb integration with video channel streaming services such as Channels.com giving you access to channels such as ESPN, Reuters and National Geographic . Just right-click or CMD-click on the playlist, select Services Discovery and Channels.com . Channels.com will then appear in your VLC media player playlist. Click on it to reveal the the different categories of channels available. Click on the category you want and a drop down list of all available channels appears in VLC media player. Just click on the channel you want to watch and streaming should begin almost immediately.

pDude: Buy the movie and stop ripping and pirating shyt angry

So this made it to the fp? Nairaland; promoting sharp practices since its inception cry

Just because you're ripping it does not mean you're pirating it. Take me for example, careless with my cd's. So I always create disc images of all my DVD'S to keep them safe.

Subtitles don't ALWAYS sync wit d movie U r playin. For instance, a movie U downloaded frm Yify while d sub U downloaded manually was encoded for Smart. In ds case, one has 2 load d sub file (.srt) manually by right clickin->subtitle->load subtitle->choosin d srt file->open. Wait for some seconds 4 d sub file 2 sync & voila! U're done

Is ur cd drive a dvd drive? There is a difference btwn d two. Cd drives can't play dvds just like a vcd player can't play dvds. But if it's a dvd drive, den it means it's faulty. In dat case, U have 2 change it

that's a virus, just do system restore and try to put the restore date to the date you took notice of that change. It should work(but might uninstal some software, although it will show the affected software)
