@uspry1 can i use a free host just to test start the stuff, if yes is there any free host you can suggest, (i don't intend to continue with the free stuff, i plan to upgrade) thank you so much and also, whats the depth of knowlege i need to run the site as an administrator do i need to be an SQL/apache/php GURU to do that, what and what do i need to master?? |

Hi, It seems that a bit advanced if not I'll say that you worry yourself on what don't really matter. Yes! You heard me clearly you worry on setting up a forum where you could just buy a domain name and hosting for your need and simply log into the cpanel of your hosting there you will find fantastico,open itand install SMF jeje. As far I'm concerned your headache should be pomotion and marketing and not setting up. Thanks |

denobleman:well i have done the set up, i am at this moment at the admin center setting up the borads and making "my Rules", Otherwise BAN!! LOL, next will be the Hosting when i am done and on like most new forums in nigeria, its not going to be a general forum, its a specialised forum for people of a partiocular profession, though there is a general section where the layman can ask questions, as par traffic, well it wont be a headache, like my master always say, CONTENT IS KING!! thanks a lot |

quickygal: You can use free host that has PHP/MySQL support with the capability to upgrade next package to be sufficient running your forum expanding no problem. For forum administrator, to learn basic PHP and HTML to know how to modify the coding without mess up the real SMF PHP coding. Make yourself habit to back up SMF files before installing new SMF mods. Always back up first!!! Good idea to make two SMF themes: one for real one (your theme where real members access) and the other experimential forum site (default theme where you can test them additional new mods or editting PHP codes). Back up both! If you do not understand what I talk about, please consult with real Nigerian SMF consultant (The Wall) I already provide the link above. |

I cant post my assignments/project on a forum, against school's policy. thanks anyway, Information Security class is about internet and OS security, have to come up with security algorithm and code in C++, cheers! |

quickygal: Ok, Now thats a good idea. Try to learn as much as possible through the free host smf forum you installed. Dont be in a haste. Any thing good always takes a lot of time. My host company are based in The USA. They take credit cards and paypal. They give 750GB for each registration with Cpanel 11 to make things easy for you. Then the excellent fantastico deluxe to install every script you need. Also you can have as many as 5 different domain names and as many as 10 differnt websites inside the one account you registered with them. I only pay them $4.99/month. But its sure worth it. uspry1:Actually, the latest version of SMF is 2.0 beta 4 but since it is still in beta, it is not advisable for production purposes. If you really want to get the most out of SMF, then you should know a bit of PHP. You can customise your forum's look and feel to your taste. You can visit my site to have an idea of what I am talking about. I also incorporated osDate into it for the personals section. As for hosting, there are lots of of providers out there with different packages. I use HostMonster and so far, they are still o.k. |
