Georgia's President Derides Nigeria To Score Political Points. by ADint(m): 2:55pm On Aug 16, 2008
Saakashivili talking about Georgia:

"This is the country that has the lowest corruption rate in the region according to the World Bank. This is the country which has the highest per capita FDI rate in the region. This is the country - this is the highest growth rate country among all known - all economies in the world. This is the country where - which moved from 140-something place in terms of business environment where we were in par with Nigeria and our neighbor, Russia, to being number 17 ahead of the UK., Germany, Netherlands, and some other leading world economies."

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/08/pres_saakashvili_sec_rice_pres.html

Now, I did have some sympathy for the Georgians, but all that has evaporated with this reckless, daft, undiplomatic utterance from Saakashvili.
Why bring us into this? What part did we have or not have to play in the whole crisis?

The appropriate Nigerian authorities would obviously not have heard or read this (and respond appropriately), or they probably did but found it amusing in their sheer ignorance.

This is an unnecessary, unprovoked slight on Nigeria from a man we have no business with.

man, you must be extremely thin skinned because i don't understand what you are trying to come up with. You really are trying to find a grievance when there is absolutely none. So keep wasting your time.

By the way, he is right. Statistics show that so if you like keep whining and complaining like all Nigerians loooooooooove to do.

Good point Jumobi1. He was bright enough thought not to name countries when he was complaning about the West especially Europe not paying his early warnings any attention.

don't know why Nigeria had to be mentioned. Nigeria is in Africa, Georgia is in eastern Europe.

I don't see the connection, unless there's something the authorities arent telling us.

Or maybe its safer to mention Nigeria instead of one of their eastern European neighbors, who could take offence and enter the conflict as a Russian ally.
Re: Georgia's President Derides Nigeria To Score Political Points. by mosunade(f): 6:33pm On Aug 16, 2008
the man was telling stories of years ago - of course Nigeria is no more where he was talking about - if we will tell our stories now, we had moved from amongst the top corrupt countries - we have moved ahead - so he was simply talking history.
Re: Georgia's President Derides Nigeria To Score Political Points. by Ibime(m): 7:23pm On Aug 16, 2008
We Nigerians love to shout for every small thing. . . . what the Georgian President said is not disrespectful as far as I am concerned. . . when did Nigerians start developing all these complexes? . . . .the other day one of our sports ministers called Alex Ferguson 'a liar from the pit of hell' cos he said that Wayne Rooney caught virus in Nigeria. . . abi is it a crime to catch virus in a country?. . . .we Nigerians need to loosen up a bit abeg.

Why are we so fond of making mountains of molehills? The man made a fair statement in the comparison. The only reason any of you may have issues is if he was lying and NIgeria wasn't really that corrupt.

But of course we all know he was saying the truth. It's a pity some silly people are so keen on proving they are more patriotic than anyone else. If only Nigerians applied this level of patriotism to paying taxes and utility bills.

As far as i'm concerned there's no fucking hope for this country. As long as we live in a country where a song 'Mugu don Pay' is immensely popular, we may as well kiss our asses goodbye.

We Nigerians act as if we have a chip on our shoulders. Shakashvilli lacks tact but there is no point kicking up a fuss over minor issues.
Re: Georgia's President Derides Nigeria To Score Political Points. by ADint(m): 10:04pm On Aug 16, 2008
For those who obviously are not getting the point, this was a press conference btw Saakashivili and Condoleezza Rice yesterday on the Russian invasion of Georgia where they were finding ways to broker an acceptable ceasefire (this was carried live by all major international broadcasters). Corruption or Nigeria were not the issue been discussed here. Even if he chose to deviate from the issues at hand and talk about corruption, he has neighbours in that region with worse corruption records, so why Nigeria?

If there's anyone out there still wondering why Nigerians lost Bakassi to Camerounians, ; it's obvious to see the reason in these responses. We are a push over!

Its a great insult for a slowpoke like Saakashvili to compare America's illusory project to Nigeria! To those who say it is nothing, when will it be something? When he makes belittling comparison between Nigeria and Afghanistan? Until then we should dismiss his moronic drools as nothing important, right?

@topic,

He is wrong 2 have mentioned names.
So we are okay with our condition as long as no one mentions our name? Na wa for my country people o.

I though our people would rather tell our leaders to go sit under the tutleage of the Georgian President to learn how he managed to move his country from the same back-stage position that Nigeria is to a nation ranked ahead of even Germany.
Re: Georgia's President Derides Nigeria To Score Political Points. by Kobojunkie: 2:19pm On Aug 17, 2008
Trend seems to show that majority would rather attack other Nigerians for having a differing opinion than attack their leaders for the appalling conditions millions continue to live in, in Nigeria. In many of these mind, it is better to continue to suffer foolishly than speak out against the situation.

Speaking out is no longer acceptable, it seems.

Belittling, huh?

It's better to strut and pout from a position of strength.
It takes FAR more courage to accept your failings, man up and strive manfully to eradicate or minimize corruption.
The easier option is to bluster on an internet forum.

We lost bakassi because we all sat quietly like sheep. We could have ignored the ICjs ruling, but where was the widespread discord and public anger when OBJ was signing away the territory?

How dare that hopeless brigand bring Nigeria into his dirty politics? The idiot thinks by spouting those useless statistics (most of them lies), then George W. Bush would send marines to protect him from the Russians?

This shows the kind of idiot ruling Georgia, no diplomatic skill, talks too much, and praises himself unnecessarily.

@RichyBlack and Tornadoz,

I really don't understand your point here. Why are you crucifying a man who took concrete steps to maintain the territorial integrity of his nation. Granted, the move was foolish and tactless, but the truth is that he would have achieved his aim if Russia did not come in and bully them. And please spare me the story that Russia was just protecting her citizens.

Here is a man who took his country from a lowly level to a point where they are ranked ahead of even Germany and all you can do is assail him for his non-diplomatic skills. He did in few years what our leaders in naija could not do in 50 and we are here talking down at him from the high horse of pride. Una do o.

If his move was foolish and tactless as you said, why support him?  I don't watch Fox news hence I have an original thought of my own. I won't be a  blatant cheerleader for wrong moves just  because Foxnews says so.

And please spare me the story that Russia was just protecting her citizens.
Your sarcastic attempt at dismissing  Russia protecting its citizens is pathetic.
Would you as president do nothing if (90% Russian) your  people were attacked with artillery? Would America  do the same if e.g a region in Mexico was attacked by the Mexican army with 90% white Americans?
