Muslim group declares Holy War on Lagos govt.

THE Movement for Islamic Rights and Justice (MIRAJ) has threatened to wage a Jihad (Holy War) against the Lagos State Government. To this end, it has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state, to release the corpse of one of its members at the General Hospital.

The threat was continued in a statement jointly signed by MRAJ‘s national coordinator, Adeniyi Alimi Adams, and secretary General Maruf’ Dairo.

According to the release, MIRAJ strongly condemned the action of the Lagos State Health workers at the Lagos State General Hospital in the handling of the corpse, which it regarded as barbaric.

It stated: "any patient that eventually dies, has to be released to the family on demand without any stress and the issue of autopsy can only arise through the consent of the family member of the corpse and not by force", adding that, it is equally important that a death certificate be issued to the family member as evidence of confirm the death.

The release emphasized that Islam teaches that delaying of any corpse is a way of punishing the corpse and "Muslims cannot sit down and be looking at our precious faith being destroyed in our life" it stated.

The release further explained that MIRAJ is a formidable human right organization and a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which takes it’s solace in the Holy Quran, as it’s quotes "Let there arise out of you, a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and for biding what is wrong, they are the ones to attain felicity" (Q3: 104). This it added, is in pursuance of it’s main objectives which is, "to address and redress any injustice, be it against Islam and it’s adherents and the humanity in general".

The release concludes with a warning that "a stitch in time, they say, saves nine. Justice delayed is a justice denied. Therefore, justice must be done, for there can be no peace without justice. No peace, no rest. Justice must prevail!"

Fact is that they are the most dangerous religious fanatics i have noticed, but when it comes to loosing their own lives; better count them out. grin
Na only cowards full the country. They cannot even stage a peaceful protest to confront the ills in the country especially in govt for the fear of being fired tear gas. tongue

As for the guys who feel their dead brother is still going through pains in death, i think they should be canvassing for better health care and services for the living. But if the dead guy is the top in their list, then they should go ahead with the suicide bombing if that will get Fash to pay more attention to the pains of dead people.

You never get it right it. Moreso, some of our media need to be reformed. why "HOLY WAR". A lot of organizations have written Lagos state govt on the issue of autopsy. Please don't just be looking at newspaper to blackmail others faith. Just put yourself in that position; assuming your father or your relation die and someone is carrying out an outopsy without your consent. Many families have called for help like this that why Lagos state is trying to generalise it. Do you think everybody will keep silent and be looking.

Just note this, nobody is fighting war against the govt. Not only muslims revolt, christain too against it. We ve visited general hospitals to witness it and also interveiwed some doctors to know the truth of the matter and there is positive result that govt is doing something about it. please don't just post to cause chaos. Note that whatever you cause either way, you have the greatest share in it.

Re: Muslim Group Declares Holy War On Lagos Government. by babs787(m): 8:42pm On Aug 26, 2008
I still wonder why people post stupidly without thinking. What brought suicide bombing into this issue?

I think my late Dad's case happened to be good example. My father died in one of the government hospitals. He died around 12pm on Thursday and we planned to bury him that day but the absence of his family member made it impossible for us. Along the line, we wre told by some of the patients, nurses therein that if a person dies there, they would not be allowed to be taklen away but would spend some weeks at the mortuary that they would need to carry out some tests on him.

While contacting his family members, his corpse was whisked away to the mortuary without our consent. While communicating with his family members, we the children felt that we should bury him in one of his houses in Ogun State and made preparation to bury him there but before we could finish contacting his family members, it was around 5.30 so we thought that it would be advisable to delay it till next day since we have not heard from some of his family members.

While doing this, we met some muslims and they told us that, they wanted to collect their corpse for burial and that its now up to 3 days and some even told us that they gave them some weeks to check back. So felt that it would be ideal to nip the situation i nthe bud before it would be too late. We went to the mortuary and was told that we have to wait for few weeks before we would be able to collect the corpse

I headed straight for CMD office and while doing this, some of my fathers siblings have come and together we went there. I asked for the CMD and was told that he was not around, so I told the staff that if they love themselves, they should produce him or else they would not leave the office. My siblings and I contacted our different lawyers and along the line, we were told that its the Lagos State Govt law that corpse must not leave immediately but must carry out test on the corpse.

Unknown to us, the CMD had been contacted and when coming, he came with some armed mopol and went inside together. The Cmd then first called my late Dad's elderly people and chat with them and called me in later and begged me that he heard everything and that since time had gone (around 6.30), we should come for the collection of the corpse the next day and begged us.

So while leaving we saw mobile policemen stationed at the mortuary and some of the nurses challenged some of us that we cused chaos here, that we are trouble makers.

The next day, we went there and collected the corpse without any argument. If he had died earlier and we were able to contact his family members, we would collect the corpse that day and nothing would happen. Later his family member told us that we should change the location and bury him in one of his houses in Lagos and we thought that God has a reason for delaying contacting his people till very late in the day.

The government should look at the law and try modifying it rather than creating a law that aggravates citizens' problems

@Davidylan

Post sensibly

Thank you Babs for that explanation and the piece of advice. I don't know why people see Muslims or the religion of Islam as trouble makers or religion full of snag.

The issue at hand hasn't call for suicide bombing, how will you feel when you see your corpse treated in an unlawful manner, and Babs has given the best solution, the government should take a good look at the laws and make necessary amendments.

Please its not of us to judge or censure people or religion, let Almighty Allah (SWT) do that.
