If you watched CNN recently you would have seen what recently happened in Indonesia. The govt was corrupt and the people demanded the resignation of the prime minister. They all came out en masse with their mats, canopies, pillow and food to come and keep vigil in front of the prime ministers office demanding for his resignation. After some uncomfortable days for the prime minister,he yielded to their demand and agreed to carry out a referendum

We really need to copy these people. Here in Nigeria, all we do is talk, talk and talk.We don't want to take any action to secure our future and that of our children. We watch our leader rip us off with impunity, increasing their already overbloated wages by 100% and we sit there hoping for better days. Those better days will continue to elude us if we don't take action.Imagine our leaders increasing their pay when a lager proportion of Nigerians can hardly live a comfortable life

We don't have to make it violent and disturb the peace of the state, just like it was done in Indonesia,we just need do something extra ordinary. We can't just continue to watch them ripping us off.The corruption in indonesia is not up to a tenth of what we have here in Nigeria.Imagine our legislators collecting 2.5million each for sitting for a recess day sitting.

Do you think the problems of Indonesia have been solved because of this action? Nope. The world still sucks.

That's exactly what you're doing yourself, action speaks louder that voice. Lead, we follow.

No, the problems of Indonesia is not solved, but half solved.

That the world sucks doesnt mean we should fold our arms and wait for god. Otherwise, which other way do we go about it.
Well, your response is typical of Nigerians.

I am disappointed at your response, Seun.

I am disappointed at your response, Seun.
I'm equally disappointed in your failure to think it through.
Forcing the prime minister to resign is no achievement.
Who says the person replacing him isn't equally corrupt?
If you're going to do anything, let it be done thoroughly.

What's the source of this story? I can't find it anywhere.

It hasnt but its yeilding results. It beat ny imagination on how you castigates people opinion without offering a better one.

Someone was trying to correct nigerians on their bad habit of throwing waste and defecating all over the place and the only thing you say is that because there is no publictoilet, then they can go ahead

Since your beef with me is personal. I think we should stick to the topic.
The truth doesn't always make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Thoroughly, how?
I mean whats your suggestion on how to oust corrupt leaders without a coup or violent revolution? Is it not referendum? And if the stubborn leader refuses to conduct one or step down, what happens. . . . . . . wait for you to give us the thorough approach?

As for the replacement, they keep trying out other people until they get somebody who is ready to work for them. The day we stop trying is the day we die. At this point, one wonders whether Nigeria is dead.

You are making a point. But, who will lead this peaceful protest . Have you heard of shoot at sight? It doesn't have to be violent protest before the Government adopt that means.

I'm not afraid but, It's easier being said than putting to practice. All the groups who claims to be human right groups in Nigeria are supposed to organise things like this undecided

I can't believe someone posted this. shocked

On a second thought, anything is possible.

I think the people of Thailand have made a bold statement. Anyone coming after the current prime minister, if he is eventually sent packing, will think twice before trying to steal public funds.

will be nice seeing nigerians actually demanding better governance from our so called leaders.

what we normally see is just grumbles and nothing more, except in 1993.
Re: Let's Follow The Example Of Thailand by birdman(m): 9:41pm On Sep 06, 2008
I think Seun is right. Thailand's 'people revolt' really is one corrupt politician fighting another by proxy. Either way, Thaksin Shinawatra or his opponent's stooge get power.
The PM didnt step down because of people pressure. H e stepped down because the people (popular opinion on the street) had approved of the army taking over power should in case their riots fail. Politically, the Thai are decades behind us. The Nigeran populace would rather solve problems through democratic means than a coup, even though it is slower.

If every society, community, or just group of people do the same, half of the man kind problems would be resolved. Most of our problems are coming from liars, cheaters, and thieves who are calling themselves politicians, businessmen, and leaders.

There is no need for those who like always to be source of frustration by saying WHAT CHANGE WOULD IT MAKE. let's presume that movement and similar ones have made no change, WHAT CHANGE HAVE YOU DONE. SHOW THE WORLD WHAT MAY COME OUT OF YOU?  those people actually have less self confident and appreciation.

Another thief may replace past one but at least he will be afraid and steal less than the former one.
Re: Let's Follow The Example Of Thailand by tommyex(m): 10:29pm On Sep 06, 2008
You guys think we suffer in nigeria right? Go to thailand you will know how far.

Every country ans its people has a tolerance level, some country's may be high and some low.
The black man has a high level of tolerance and because in nigeria we still have a high % of comfortable people we may not do such,
The only way we may protect seriously is if the poverty really sinks through, but that may not happen because we have OIL as a 'shortcut' to wealth,

I hope i don't smell beef here between??
Re: Let's Follow The Example Of Thailand by bawomolo(m): 12:16am On Sep 07, 2008
actually thailand, turkey and nigeria are in the same boat. those countries all have armies that poke their nose into political affairs. it's hilarious how nigerians try to distance themselves from similarly flawed countries.

This simply shows that you only listen to music for listening sake. Its a pity that you didn't get the message Fela was trying to pass across.
