Amuneke wants to coach Eaglets

Atlanta‘96 Olympic Games gold medallist, Emmanuel Amuneke, has his sights set on coaching the Golden Eaglets.

Coach Alphonsus Dike future has come in for a lot of flak for coaching the Eaglets to a humiliating 3-0 defeat to the Young Squirrels of Benin Republic in their Algeria 2009 Under-17 African Championship qualifier in Cotonou on September 14.

The defeat sent out Nigeria from the Algeria 2009 party and there has been pressure on the Nigeria Football Federation to sack Dike.

Speaking with Brila FM on Monday, Amuneke insisted he deserved to coach the Eaglets, because possessed the professional qualification for the job.

He said, “I have declared my interest in serving the nation, to impart my knowledge of the game to the younger players as a coach but one has to wait for an opportunity.

“No one was born with experience; it is something you gain in your life. I don’t have to coach Barcelona or Manchester United before you can say I have the experience for the job.”

Amuneke, whose brace helped the Super Eagles won the Tunisia’94 Nations Cup for the country in the 2-1 defeat of Zambia in the final, said he would not work as an assistant coach.

“I want to be the chief coach. I want to apply my own way of doing things, I want to apply my own definition of training,” the former Sporting Lisbon star said.

However, if he would like, he could assist OLiseh for this Job

since Oliseh seems to have an upper edge.

no matter who the coach is, they should simply make sure the kids are truly U17 by some bone marrow test or something, i don't want to see 20 year olds in our youth teams. We wonder why the Real Madrids and AC Milans don't buy Nigerian players, its because they simply want to know if that so called 18 year old boy they just spent 12 million pounds on is actually 18!!!!. Everybody is tired of the cheating abeg.
