kuzee: recently i have been feeding my dog with simba, but i now switch to feeding them with fish [eel] organs and chicken organs from the market which are relatively very cheap,i realize they love eating the boiled organs than the food tin[simba] bought from the store.it seem to be their favorite.
will it affect their growth and be prone to disease when they eat the organs continuously..

now i do mix the canned food with the organs and boil..

Feeding organs regularly is not advisable because it's very rich and might not digest completely hence loose stool is imminent .

I do normally feed 60% muscle meat, 20% bones and 10% organs .

If the organs don't constitute more than 20% of the diet and are cooked, there should be no problems. Liver should not be more than 5 - 10%.

Unless you're willing to do a lot of research you should stick with an affordable high quality dog food. If you want to mix your dog's food yourself you must provide meat, organs, and bone. The meat provides protein, the bone provides calcium, and the organis provide vitamins and minerals. If you feed too much organs, your dogs could experience an overdose of oil-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A and Vitamin D (for example, liver contains a lot of vitamin A, so if more than 10% of your dogs' diet is liver then they at risk of Vitamin A overdose which is nasty) If you don't feed bones, then your dogs will suffer from calcium deficiency, so at least 10% of their diet (up to 20%) must be bone. Bones will also make your dogs' stool firm. Alternatively, you can give them calcium tablets which will prevent calcium deficiency but their stools will remain soft. And the rest should be meat/skin/fat/cartilage which provides protein and fat and some vitamins. The ideal ratio is said to be 80% meat/fat/skin/cartilage, 10% organs, and 10% bone. But feeding up to 20% bone and up to 15% organs should still be ok. If you know that you don't have time to sort all of the above issues out with your calculator and kitchen scales, please just continue to buy commercial dog food.

My dogs eat chicken with bones irrespective if the age but get liver treat for training and raw egg two times per week. I occasionally add cold liver oil to their water also. Good luck in feeding your dog.

I have a different philosophy in raising a puppy and my puppies are never free until they are 6 month old and well trained. You need to establish pack structure for this breed unless you will have yourself to be blamed.

Nice. How is that? Does it aid fast growth or just supplements ?.

I changed from the puppy royal canin feed because my dog was kinda suffering from down pasterns owing to his fast growth and that was because that puppy feed has a high protein content....the feed now which is royal canin for german shepherd has a lower protein and it aids digestions since GS have a sensitive digestive system, also its formulated well to give them strong bones.

I think the rate at which he is growing is too fast for a 4 months old, reduce the amount of the food if you are feeding too much because its not healthy for dog to grow at a speedy rate. Keep him lean and healthy.

ok sir. Will work on that. But looking at her legs, she's meant to be big reason I was not really bothered. Will reduce her food to 200g daily instead of formal 300g. what do you think sir?
