1. VLAN false belief. VLAN is one basic networking concept that lingers as a dark unknown to most people. The three most confusing concepts seem to be: try understanding when to tag and when not to tag, when and where to extend VLANs in the network. Note that when something is being switched at Layer 1 on a VLAN and routed at Layer 2 from a VLAN with an IP. Try as much as possible to master these three issues and you’ll have very few VLAN grief when scheming and troubleshooting.

2. Expecting Too Much Too Quickly. It is important to not ask for what we want from networking contacts right away. We’ve got to give before we get. The goal is to widen your network and make meaningful connections so that they can or may help you later.

3. Network Won't Reach Certain Areas. Sometimes, networks won't easily reach all the areas in your office or home as the case may be. Stringing network cables directly to your office or room may not be able to work effectively. But even with wireless networks, "cold spots" where Wi-Fi radio signals won't reach corner of your bedrooms or even the fully enclosed windows in your office. Be ready to make a few concessions in your network installation plan.
