A Brother URGENTLY Needs Advice On A Job Offer by Ema2nty: 1:39pm On Jul 08, 2014
Hello everyone, am a young promising graduate Electrical Engineer, graduated in 2012 with a great grade in EEE and rounded-off my nysc in Feb this year. Since I completed my NYSC I have been applying to alot of job openings and thankfully I have been called for many aptitude tests and interviews but yet to get an offer letter from a desired coy. I recently applied to an Engineering servicing firm in warri ( named withheld) and the HRM was really impressed with my performance in the interview and my grade. they are willing to give me an offer but with a CLAUSE. the clause states that I would be on a training for 18months ( during which I will be on a salary of 60k ), after which I would do a voluntary service work that would last for another period of two years ( still on same pay) but with a possibility of a raise depending on the level of performance and dedication to work. Please kindly drop your advice..........

WOW, FIRST CONGRAT , LIFE IS A GAMBLE . BUT IF UR NOT SATISFIED U COULD RESIGN AFTER THE FIRST TWO YEARS EXCEPT UR COMPELLED TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT . ASIDE THAT AFTER FOUR YEARS OF WHEN YOU START WHAT HAPPENS WILL YOU BE RETAINED AND PAID YOUR FULL SALARY?

Congrats, May I say it depends. Earning the same salary for over 3 years in a company can be so frustrating. I understand low salary during training period, not after training. I love trainings, but after trainings, the salary should be reviewed. If I may ask, were you at any point told you can't resign before the 2 years period, if NO, then take the offer for now, then leave once you get a better job if they are not willing to increase your pay after the training period.

Thanks guys for your contributions.@afrocandy, I was told that I would sign legal bond with the coy that will prevent me from leaving. According to the terms of the bond, I can only leave wen I have worked for a minimum of two years afta training. My problem is I don't know how robust their training is, as they're a very young firm with no strong presence yet so am not even sure of the career path there. Am very confused right now cos I really need to start doing something. Staying at home with no money in one's pocket is not funny at all

Bros, don't sign away your future. Yes, things may be rough and tough out there, try tough it out. Who knows what other clauses may be hiding in that document. Please don't be in a rush and do something rash. Why not take some time to read through some of the wonderful threads on NL and see if you can discover a niche.
On the other hand, tell them to give you a comprehensive information on what your training period consists of as well as a copy of the document you are meant to sign. When you get and study the two, then you will be in a much better position to reflect and decide. Wish you the best. Shalom.

18 months training and a bond that lets you leave after 24 months? undecided

Is it just me or does this arrangement stink to high heaven. So let me get this straight, a company trains you for 18 months and lets you leave 6 months after?

I seriously doubt that. What kind of training last 18 months? PHD? undecided

I strongly advise you don't sign away your future for a plate of porridge cos the offer isn't anything to write home about. Leave your options open because something good is always around the corner. Make them understand you'll be willing to work your arse out but that you wont be signing any bond
