The installation of 15,000 pre-paid water meters across the Zambian capital has completed by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC). It moves to further improve revenue collection, the official mentioned Sunday. The spokesperson of LWSC named Topsy Sikalinda stated the prepaid meters had been installed at every residential home as a part of a brand new system to which customers must pay the water upfront.

This is against the current system in which customers are billed for the water they have consumed during the month and they then settle this amount.

Sikalinda said the old system had however not worked well as most customers accumulated large bills for water usage.

He revealed that the company had seen an improvement in its financial performance since the pre-paid meters were installed during the last six months.

He said the consignment of the 10,000 meters is expected to arrive before the end of the year and installations at residential homes would commence immediately.
