cronsberg: You know what the funny thing is? You know how they say opposites attract, that outside food always taste better than the one cooked at home? I am fulani through and through, i was born and grew up in the midst of people looking like the ones in the pics, but am more attracted to girls of other tribes(maybe because am one of them so don't find them as attractive as people are saying). To me, girls of other tribes are extremely sexy, they have bigger asssses grin , have toner body structure(i like me a strong girl not the flimsy soft girls am used to), they're more sexxually daring than fulani girls e.t.c The sight of a yoruba, or igbo, or berom girl passing by stylishly moving that booty is f..u.kcng attractive to me. I also notice that many fulani guys(me and many of my friends) are more attracted to the other tribes, and guys of other tribes find fulani girls irresistable. I think its about time that we perform a massive switch. We send you bus loads of our babes, you send us bus loads of your babes. What do you say guys...

The Toucouleur(Tukulor) are Fulani speakers. Baaba Maal is one of them. Some consider them Fulani, some consider them a different group because they don't herd cattle despite speaking only the Fulani language. They have more in common with other Senegambian cultures like the Serer and Wolof. A lot of them are fishermen.

My friend-Fulaman, if I may ask- what makes one a Fulani? Is it enough to be born by Fulani parents, or must one also be a Cattle rearer? I am trying to understand why certain Fulani sub-groups (the fishermen example you gave) are not often seen as Fulanis.

I personally see them as Fulani. Some Fulani like Bororojo don't though. What really makes one Fulani is Pulaaku

I checked the term Pulaaku up. It is: ...
described as 'Fulaniness' , decorum, good manners, and pastoral chivalry. Pulaaku involves important virtues such as, munyal, which is patience, self control, mental discipline, prudence; semteende which is modesty and respect for others, even for enemies, and also hakkille, wisdom, forethought, prudence in managing his personal affairs and giving hospitality...Pulaaku implies that one can manage onself well and also that one can manage one's herd well... To appreciate the moral principles governing the Fulani life, one must have a deep understanding of the notion of Pulaaku or Fulaniness

It sounds somewhat similar to the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi or the Bantu concept of Ubuntu. Thanks man for teaching me something new. smiley

I completely disagree with you brother. Contrary to popular opinion/believe there are sizeable fulani christian in the north. Have met few,I'm a northerner and I knw what I'm talking about. If you go to Zaria for instance in Wusasa, there are fulani christians, in adamawa, taraba etc. Though they are few,the figure u gave is over exaggerated.........still looking forward to meet a christian fulani here on nairaland..........Hopefully,one is by the corner reading this piece.

The only pure Fulbe are the Mbororo'en, and those found in Fouta Djallon, some parts of Maasina, Fulbe Djeeri, many subgroups in between Burkina and Mali. I will further explain in a bit.

Equilibrium I'm going to warn you stop abusing and violating the following rules:

2. Don't abuse, bully, deliberately insult/provoke, fight, or wish harm to any Nairaland member.
3. Don't advocate or encourage violent actions against any person, tribe, race, animals, or group of people.

I am going to have to give you a temporary ban from this section. Ethnic bigotry is not tolerated here.

I will have to disagree with you my friend Fulaman. There are "pure" Fulani in Senegal, there are also Poulo Dieri in Senegal. Dieri or Djeeri is just an appelation to designate the plains along the Senegal river that do not flood but solely depend on rainfall. The Fulbe dieris are the Fulanis that live as nomads on those plains.
If we all agree that the Fula migration started from the Senegal valley even those Mbororo Fulani are not pure then, because they were from the same origin stock than the Senegal fulani. Maybe living in isolated regions made the Mbororo intermixing thess than their other counterparts.
Futa Djallon Fulani are a similar group with the Firdo Fulani who live in the Kolda region, South-Est Senegal. If the Firdo sometimes intermixed with Mandinkas, the Futa Djallon intermarried sometimes Mandinkas and Djallonkes who are the original inhabitants of Fouta Djallon, so they are not really "pure".
I don't relly think there are really ''pure'' Fulanis, but rather more or less mixed fulas hence the differences in their physical phenotypes.

I'm aware that there are pure Fulani in Senegal. I mentioned the Fulbe Djeeri as an example. I'm aware that the purest Fulani language is also spoken in Senegal. Also I don't judge who is or isn't Fulani based on phenotypes. There are dark Fulani, brown Fulani and light complexioned Fulani. What about Daby Balde, what region is he from? Would you say he is Full Fulani?

Daby Balde is a Peul Firdo from Kolda, Kolda region englobes the historical region of Fouladou Pakaw in Southern Senegal. Firdo intermixed with neighbouring tribes such as Mandinkas. Some of the Firdo were also originally Mandinka or slaves from other tribes who were assimilated into Fula people. To me obviously Daby is not pure Fulani, he has those Mandinka features...
