Nairaland. 8 years. No logo. There is god oooo. grin grin grin

TheWisest: People, people, people! Not all businesses need a logo. Does Nairaland really have a logo? No.

Defining the brand of your business to your "target" audience should be the highest priority. Many people make the mistake of just giving the job straight into the hands of a logo or graphic designer and leaving them with the task of defining your business for you. Will you be able to trust another parent to determine the needs of your own child and meet them adequately? Will another parent ever know your child the way you know them? NO! Why entrust your "business baby" to an outsider for definition?

What's the correction? Look for a brand consultant and hire them. They know how to ask the right questions to unravel the real meat of your business. So, after that, then you can invite the logo/graphic designer. SIMPLE smiley

Agreed.

Its something better discussed with whoever you'll be giving the logo design job to. The designer will assist you with a design brief questionnaire and he can give you suggestions on ideas he thinks will encompass all sections of your business as well as send a direct message to clients at the first glance.
SME that has limited capital & can't afford to pay a good designer.... Wht advise can u give?
Re: No Logo? Launching A Business Without A Logo Can Sabotage You by Nobody: 10:17am On Jul 28, 2014
A logo is meant for an experienced businessman. Experience is not by intelligence, it must be garnered hands on the job.

Don't spend so much money establishing a new business, rent, logo, adverts and large office space. The business is 70% likely to fail the first time till you learn by experience.. unless you intend to abscond one day owing people..

Establish a personal working relationship with your immediate environment and clients, when you have built a solid foundation and can project your profit, then you start working on expansion, that's where logo design comes handy..

I really don't know how to reply this. But it best to lay more emphasis on other components of your business like efficient service delivery, good customer service, prompt response, etc. You can then consult a designer when the business is stable enough.

Send me a mail.

Here's the ultimate test: if you leave that sign to stand alone without any lettered inscription, what would it remind you of? Money or nairaland? Therefore, Nairaland doesn't have a logo, albeit a competent logo

this topic is a good one.

I think i have learnt much more from TheWisest than i thought when opening this thread.
I like constructive criticism, at least no individual would claim to know it all.

@op,
You need to be passionate about your job than the finances,as we all know, An enterpreneur need to make his business stabilize, gain ground and customer confidence, package his goods and services nicely and in turn the reward(money) would roll in (Money is good but making money your base is doom)

I totally agree with you. Its the more reason people who have a passion for something get to succeed more at it than those who are into it for the money because they get to satisfy their curiosity and understand the whole processes if the job better.

I always say it: If you are into entrepreneurship because of hunger, you'll be largely wasting your time because you will lack the drive, insight and vision for that business. You'll basically be concerned about the present alone with no vision of the future.

yes it has a logo, a logo mustn't be a big and complex symbol as people think professional designed Logos is always simple and has a lot of message along
wherever you see a letter N with white Marks across do you need a ghost to tell you is Nairaland.

Get the meaning of a logo, it can just be a plane text or a symbol just like cococal, is that not just a text but with a unique font and color...you can agree with me that once you change the colour of that font or the font itself is no longer coco cola just like Nairaland if you Change the colour and the impact font, you will get something else and if it is replace with the new one with different font and even same color it will be observed by everyone even you....so get it, a logo is a graphical representation of a firm and it can be of two type either a symbol and a word mark or just a word mark ....as far as it represent the firm...and I quote every firm needs a log..it boast the prestige of a firm and shows it authenticity

Will you look at the Coca Cola logo and think: "Is that Coca Cola or ...?" Logos ought to be distinctive and the supposed Nairaland logo isn't. I can correct you that the image you've been putting up here has been the website's favicon, not logo. Seunosewa can attest to the fact that Nairaland hasn't got a standard logo.

Besides to quell your quest for debate, does your supposed logo of the Naira sign tell us the story of the Nairaland brand?

Ok... let us analyze this. I know "Nairaland" is the brand name and it stands for a community, in this case Nigerians. As Nigerians, the Naira is our common property. It's what joins us. That's the brand, no problem with that. My problem is this: leaving the logo as just that "Naira sign" in a green background is not distinctive enough.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Why not add another little and subtle symbol to this already existing "logo"? It might be something like what Amazon did with the curved arrow in their logo (SEE IMAGE BELOW). The key is that your logo should be distinctive.

Maybe I was too strict when I said Nairaland doesn't have a logo. Let's assume it has a logo, but it's not standard enough. Seunosewa can do better with the level of brand equity the brand (Nairaland) has amassed. Nairaland is now a huge brand that could even go public as a company if it wished to. As the leading social platform in Nigeria, it could partner with Facebook or LinkedIn to enhance service delivery for users and increase brand loyalty for the company. IT CAN GO PLACES. Let's just standardize things, shall we? smiley
