I took the GRE today, and I was not impressed with my scores but I don't think I will retake it. I had 302- 155Q 147V.

Any ideas of schools I can shoot for PhD in Electrical Engineering with this score? Suggestions will be appreciated.

If you can, please retake it.

But I don’t think your score is bad especially the Quant session which is what counts for Engineering. If you’ve written any English test, that’s better. Make sure you apply broadly to at least 7schools.

Thanks boss, but I don't think I can retake it. I plan on taking TOEFL or IELTS next month. I haven't decided on which to take yet, but I'll certainly take an English language test.

Do you have a list of Universities you are hoping to apply to? Check their admission requirement. I believe TOEFL is easier but IELTS is more useful. I didn’t write any but I got into a few unfunded PhD. My regret is not applying broadly. Hopefully I get into a funded PhD soon. Good luck on your TOEFL/IELTS


Edit: I just noticed you have a Masters degree, I don’t think you have any issues at all. I’m sure you’d get into most if not all Programs you apply to if your cGPA is great.

Check out the University of Colorado Boulder. Their PhD in Electrical university is fully funded.

Edit. Check out university of Michigan Dearborn and Ann Arbon. They both guaranteed full funding for admitted PhD students. Wanye state University also guarantees funding for admitted PhD students.

I would have applied to several ( at least 10) PhD programs spanning Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical and Material science Engineering instead of just 2 programs.

Looking back, I would have stuck with Mechanical Engineering since my undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering as most Industrial Engineering program (which I applied to) are usually not funded or have very little funding compared to Mech/EE/Civil/Comps etc.

But the fear of Studying something I struggled with during undergrad coupled with my love for management sciences endeared me to industrial engineering.

On the ETS website, it is stated that the accepted ID for test takers in Nigeria is a valid international passport. If you can, try to get one.

Try Univeristy of Missouri-Columbia, UKY is also good also check Uni of Hawaii

Boulder is very competitive with that GRE...last time you need a Q of about 162+ and total of 315+ to be competitive for the EE PhD

Generally speaking direct fully funded PhD programs in STEM are always competitive and a lot of factors are considered like inclusion and diversity

So if the program really appeals to you, I will still encourage you to apply
