1. Open Windows Explorer by double clicking on the Computer icon on the Desktop.

3. In the Drive list, click a drive letter. You can choose any available letter.

4. Next, specify the remote location to be made a mapped drive on the local PC. The location must be a UNC path for a device that is currently reachable over the network. The path can either be typed manually or selected via the Browse... button that allows navigating through available devices and shares on the network.

5. In the Browse for Folder dialog box navigate to the folder to be mapped and press OK

6. Click Finish button

You can also create shortcuts to Internet locations, such as websites or FTP sites.

Here’s how to do that:

Open Computer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
Right-click anywhere in the folder, and then click Add a network location.
Follow the steps in the wizard to add a shortcut to a location on your network, a website, or an FTP site.

Note: Windows 7 maintains a list of network drives each user has mapped. By default, each time a user logs in to a PC, Windows automatically makes connections to each of their network drives and maps them in Windows Explorer so that they are available for immediate use. If a user wants a certain drive mapping to be purged and forgotten when they log out, they can un-check the box "Reconnect at logon" on the Map Network Drive window when initially defining it.
