Nigeria would be a better nation if leaders like Colin Powell could just exist in our political structure.
This type of unique leadership style and complete commitment to the country would certainly help our economic and political developments in Nigeria.

During the "Meet The Press" interview, I couldn't stop watching his body language, his brilliant selection of words, his pure sincerity, the display of his profound wisdom and his clever method of effectively delivering his message without insulting or stepping on any toes.
The man is absolutely magnificent and truly represents an entity one should look up to!

Powell is a useless fellow.

Only a poor student of history will trust or believe this guy.

He is a yes sir man! House Slave.

He lied to the whole world that saddam has weapon-of-mass destruction when we know the countries that actually had this weapon.

He should be held responsible for the carnage in Iraqi.

my brother government is very big, it is very easy to be drowned out if you are on the wrong side of the agenda.

I also believe it is too simplistic to summarise Mr Powell's life with what happened in Iraq.

This man is an Army General, a former National Security Adviser, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of staff and then Secretary of States.

I will be satisfied with half of his accomplishments.

the above statement says more of landis than of powell. while i disagree with powel's republicanism, i cant help notice and respect his persona. just like condy rice, i disagree with what she stands for, but i appreciate her achievement in life. even the democrats and the anti war groups know powell is a man of substance. and old john knows it

Powell lied about WMD's in Iraq didnt he?

Most of George Bush's failure in foreign policy should be on him and Rumsfeld.

If he had endorsed Mc Cain I am not sure we would be talking about him in glowing adjectives like this.

Be OBJECTIVE PLS

If Powell is as good as you've said of him, then i must remind you that we have got loads and even better people like that in nigeria. The problem is that the likes of Adedibu, Uba, Ibori, Atiku, Nzeribe and your oga IBB will kill them off before their names are heard in their various constituencies.

Or do want to tell me that powell is better than Oshomole? Where the guy dey now?

Colin Powell worked as hard as he could to prevent the war, he made his decision to go to war based on the information available to him. It so turned out that those informations were false and probably spinned by those who wanted to go into Iraq anyway.

I believe the General gravely regrets the role he was made to play. But what he wont do is say this publicly, at least not when the same war is still going on. He can only play whatever role he can to end the war.

And by the way Powell was more of a moderate voice in the administration. He does not believe America should choose which leaders to talk to, he believes military force should be used only as a last resort. So to put President Bush's failures squarely on the man is not fair.

And I would have still held this view even though Colin powell ended up being John McCain's running mate.

Go on youtube and view his reaction to the Georgia vs Russia conflict and what he makes of McCain's comments that "we are all Georgians" you will get a sense to his approach on foreign relations.

@McKren,

What gives us the impression that the much maligned George Bush did not work hard to prevent the war, was spinned by those who wanted to go to Iraq anyway, acted based on information available to him,

George W. Bush is President, the bucks stops on his desk.

The kind of voice that prevails in the white house is a function of his judgement. He can not run away from that responsibility.

Hmmm . . . . . .

I don't know if you support Obama or McCain, I hope its the former. Nonetheless, this is a deficit on Senator Obama. I say this because the whole premise of who voted for or against the Iraq war is based on that argument of whether or not George Tenet was forthcoming with factual intelligence or propaganda for regime change.

The damage here is this - If General C. Powell, a decorated career soldier, a veteran of wars, served as National Security Adviser, served as Joint Chief of the Services, a Pentagon insider, a Fellow at the Institute of Strategic & Policy Studies, could form a judgement to go to war based on the prevailing evidence infront of him, . . then what does it say of those who voted against that prevailing evidence?

Here is what it says of them. . . when faced with a truly and genuine imminent danger, they will still vote against a military solution, taking it for granted as an unecessary assault. You don't vote against your intelligence apparatus, you vote inline with it - this is a fundamental National Security test. McCain passed that test, Hillary Clinton passed that test, General Powell passed the test and so did Joe Biden. Senator Obama failed that test.

What's common between all those that passed the test? Experience!!

If there's a valid imminent danger while in The Oval office, how would President Obama respond to it? Will he respond to the 3:00am call or would he roll over and go back under the sheets?

I need the Obama supporters to respond.

Nigeria has them, plenty of them . , . . . when they speak to us and behold us to stand up for what is right we turn away from them and give them our back.

Example - General Tunde Idiagbon.

indeed.

This means that his support for Obama(not that I care) is also based on false information.

That is his style, he never cross-check if something is REALLY true or not. He just come forward and open his mouth.

This is same guy that said all NIGERIANS are 419 and yet this yeye THISDAY invited him to their dance-party.

We are poor student of history, that is why WEST/ASIA is ahead of us.

It has been over 48hrs and no Obama supporter is yet to respond to my allegation that Barack failed the test of leadership when he voted against National Security apparatus in 2003 before the beginning of the Iraq war.

Well, let me help . ,  . .  look in the attached picture you will find the material for a counter attack.  Why is that guy in baby blue tie behind Powell's right shoulder, George Tenet, at a UN General Meeting?

This is the point where Powell's career as a Secretary of State was damaged. Obama has said he will have Powell's advise, I hope not as a Sec of State or Defense and not as American Ambassaor to UN either; He will be okay as Sec of Energy.  Hillary would be better as Sec of State or as Ambassador to the UN.
