My dad is mixed but he is more of a Yoruba man and my mum is a Benin princess. One of the funny experiences I can relate with is the fact that growing up, we detested anything that had to do with Yoruba and even at some point, we all agreed no one should marry from the Yoruba tribe however, those who are married amongst we children married Yoruba people. I am quick as an individual to point it out that I am not a full blown Yoruba and one reason is because by my standard, they do not have the respect they claim to have. I remember some people while we were growing up in church and in my dad's family kept complaining we don't call ourselves brother and aunty and my dad will tell them off instantly that he is not a party to that. Some times, when some people complain too much, he tells us to avoid such people.

Another one is the fact that my mum and one of my dad's sisters are not so close and it has been like that since she married my dad. The funny part was one day my mum told us she had to ask her that whenever the reverend father asked if there was anyone who was not in support of their marriage should indicate and since she did not she should forever hold her peace. I learnt the argument was always centered on my mum not been Yoruba.

Popsie was a full fledged igbo man, him carry waka enter Calabar, my momsie show am skills for akpako and food things, the man gently marry the woman, na so i become half igbo and half calabar. Which is also why every December when i go to my home town, i visit my maternal roots, if for nothing else to attend the carnival. I reach ground well on both sides.

My mum is itsekiri my dad is from imo state..

No funny experience anyway.. But I ve never been to delta state since my birth.. Not to talk of my maternal villa.

Not my fault anyway. My mum and her parents and siblings were all born and bred in kaduna because her dad was a military officer serving in the north ..

Now here is the funny part.. My mum has never been to her place in delta state too since birth.. Yet she speaks itsekiri perfectly..

As for me I know only two words. Shikaleshaga and shikaleshigowe..lolZ

But no try me for igbo and yoruba sha.. Cos I be omo eko.. And proud IMSU graduate too

I detest mixed-marriages.

Marriages between close groups is ok though. (e.g., Urhobo-Esan, Bini-Yoruba, Igbo-Ekpe, Marghi-Bura, etc.)

Mixed Marriages destroy tribes and cultures.
