Why Are We This Gullible? by Rapmoney(m): 10:20pm On Aug 17, 2014
Good evening everyone,
For sometime now, I have observed carefully that most Nigerians are easily deceived by people who just want to create fear in the minds of the gullible ones. There are people whose hobby it is to send text messages to others and ask them to send to 10 people they care about. These text messages normally contain an impending danger or one silly story that even a high school drop-out in the western world would not fall for...below are some of the silly and unbelievable stories that succeeded in creating fear in the minds of Nigerians(even the so-called educated):

1. Gbagi Episode: Some years back, txt messages were sent to so many people that T.B Joshua prophesied that a lion would appear from the house of a famous politician, Kenneth Gbagi, in Warri! grin So funny, but many Nigerians fell for it. I know folks who placed their keys under lock and abandoned their houses. Would it have been possible for a lion to eat everybody that lives in that town? If Gbagi actually owned a lion, people around would have heard the roar of the lion grin A friend of mine lives in that same street, I do visit him but I never heard the roar of a lion! The truth is that, you cannot keep a lion in a residential area without people knowing. The roar of a lion travels far.

2. Hotel Excel Episode: In 2012, we were told that a girl was turned into a snake at Hotel Excel(for those that live in Warri/Effurun). The news went far to an extent where friends in other states and towns were calling me to confirm if it was true. Funny enough, so many Nigerians fell for it. People were busy sending the videos to their friends and relatives. A video that has been on Youtube for years and was actually put together by some dude from Singapore just for fun grin

3. No Wearing Red Episode: Nigerians were also told in 2012 that they should not put on red clothes on a particular day because the 'evil politicians' would use the blood of anyone that wore red for ritual sacrifice! I laughed when I heard it and I had to borrow my bro's red top to prove to peeps how stewpid they could be for falling for that crap (red isn't my favorite though). If you are reading this and you fell for it, then you are not better than the village idio.t! grin

The Ibadan Fish-Human Episode: Ibadan people, una nor go kill us. Fish turned to human. Hmmm! It is high time Nigerian parents exposed their kids to channels such as Animal Planet and Nat Geo so that they can learn about animals. Enough of these Nollywood loads of disappointment where Tonto Dikeh and the likes showcase their breasts and bums. The average Nigerian student doesn't know what a squid is but she can tell you all the flicks that Funke Akindele has starred in since January, 2013. Many people still fell for that crap!

4. Salt and Ebola Episode: Chai!!! Wetin concern bicycle with filling station? Even people who call themselves Phd holders fell for this crap! It was not medically proven before Nigerians started stuffing their intestines and skins with salt. Rest in peace to those who already had high blood pressure...they shortened their lives out of ignorance.

Nigerians should wise up. It is high time we stopped believing all sort of silly stories sold to us. God bless Nigeria and Nigerians.

You can contribute by adding similar silly stories you have heard so that people can learn from them and free themselves from the chains of ignorance and gullibility.

You forgot the one that said we should not a pick a call from one yeye number like that. They said those who picked died instantly.

I tried the number many times and neither times did it connect. Fake stories everywhere.

I personally watched TB Joshua refute your first point on Emmanuel TV. Some peeps find pleasure in putting panic in other peeps sha. I do receive many of them on my whatsapp and BBM. Some will even tell you that you will receive a surprise package if you rebroadcast .

My guy, all na washing. I don't believe in them. How can you send a prayer to someone and threaten that if they don't send it to 10 people, something terrible would happen to them. Which kain prayer be dat? Btw, I didn't say TB Joshua said that. I only said people said he 'prophesied' such.

Yes, I remember now and so many peeps, even the so called educated, fell for it. The fact is, nobody I know of today has been bold enough to tell me that someone he/she knew personally happened to be a victim.

This reminds me of an incident when I was an undergraduate, there was panic in school because of sms and calls asking people to swtch off their phone @midnight and keep it far from them that there is going to be an ozone layer depletion and if any phone is powered on it will emit radiation and explode and kill anyone near, I was dissapointed in all the science student that gave in to such crab and switch off their phones so I told them I'll prefer to sacrifice so they can tell the story, lo and behold all my room mate left the room 4me to sleep alone simply cos I refuse to switch off my phone and in the morning they were all ashame to face me.

Majority of Nigerians just believe things that are unimaginable. Even science students kwa? God help us, but we must first, help ourselves by ceasing to be this gullible.

When my neighbour told me he actually bathed with salt after speaking with a colleague of his on phone, I just wished he would throw his Phd certificate into the waste bin.

Not just humans bro, it is Nigerians in particular. The average school drop-out in the western world hardly believe such.

I admire your intelligence. Many of our young women don't even have time for that.
