So you've been trying to make it to the almighty frontpage with little or no success? Here are a few guidelines to help you in your quest

1. Breaking News Posts

I think the best way to make fp on NL is by posting breaking news. Ensure, however, that the news contains relevant link and/or picture in order to ascertain its authenticity and for the purpose of further reading.

2. Well-Timed Posts

You need to get the timing right as well. A late night religious post on Saturday night, for example, will more likely make frontpage on Sunday morning. Posts on current/trending issues like ebola, Boko Haram, etc. are sure-fire frontpage materials.

3. Non-Biased Posts

It's obvious that posts with no gender, cultural, or religious bias are more likely to make it to fp than their 'counterparts'. Remember Seun and the mods? You sure don't want to offend their sensibilities.

4. Educative/Thought-Provoking Posts

We all love educative posts. So, look for something really educative and...give it to us.

5. Well-Written Posts

Posts full of grammatical errors are a push off. So, make sure your post makes a good read.

I've been quite lucky lately, too. I remember my first post that made frontpage. I was totally surprised it did because I never expected it to. Apparently, the good mods on NL thought otherwise.

I've tried for weeks before that but nothing. Then one day, I lazily sent a post about an ant on a stretchy rope... I was ecstatic when the piece made frontpage several days later!

Why is this frontpage thing important anyway? Methinks it's an achievement of some sort. And what will the good people on nairaland feed on if no one posts anything?

Even if it doesn't, somebody somewhere is very likely using one of the techniques that'll make them achieve frontpage. That is victory in itself.
