Boko Haram Insurgents Seize Town In Yobe State by duni04(m): 10:31pm On Aug 21, 2014
Boko Haram militants yesterday seized control of a town in Yobe State, according to a displaced resident who talked to a SaharaReporters correspondent . A security source confirmed the development.

The sources disclosed that the insurgents stormed the town of Buni Yadi, arriving in a convoy of numerous sports utility vehicles and armed with sophisticated weapons.

“They killed scores of villagers,” said the resident of the town, adding that he was lucky to escape.

Buni Yadi, the latest town in the violence-plagued northeast area of Nigeria to fall to the Islamists, is located approximately 34 miles from Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.

Hamza Umar, a resident of the besieged town, told our reporter that heavily-armed Boko Haram insurgents stormed the town on Wednesday and opened fire on anyone within their sight.

“There are no inhabitants left in Buni Yadi now,” said Mr. Umar. “Everyone who was lucky to escape the onslaught has moved to Damaturu,” said the source in Hausa.

Neither Mr. Umar nor the security source who confirmed the attack could state the number of people killed by the attackers in yesterday’sinvasion of Buni Yadi. “All I know is that many were killed and wounded,” said Mr. Umar
