Abuja – Three-day old Baby Amara Chiedozie, has shocked British doctors by learning to feed herself.
According to UK Dailymail on Friday, Amara weighed 6lbs 3oz when she was born on August 3 at Queen’s Hospital in Romford, UK.
The baby, whose pictures were displayed on the newspaper glugging milk from a bottle, looked like any other contented three-week-old, except for the fact that she was already capable of holding the container on her own.
Her mother, Onyi Chiedozie, 20, from Nigeria, claimed she has been doing it since she was three days old. The strength of her grip at such a tender age has amazed her family and medics.
She said: “When we were feeding, she started shaking, and then she just grabbed the bottle. She was holding it by herself.
“We couldn’t believe it because babies don’t normally do it that young. I’m so shocked that I have been documenting it every day. It’s unbelievable.
“When she doesn’t want it she will push it away; she isn’t strong enough to throw it away, but she does push it, like she does with her dummy.
“If she is really hungry, she starts shaking. Then she will just grab the bottle as you give it to her,’’ she said.
Miss Chiedozie said her progress had astounded medical professionals.
The student added: “Even nurses are really surprised. When my health support nurse came, she was shocked as well. She couldn’t believe that this could happen.
“Whenever we go to appointments, we take pictures of her doing it. The midwife and even the doctor we had an appointment with on Saturday were actually amazed. They couldn’t believe it.’’
Chiedozie, who also breastfeeds Amara regularly, said: “The breastfeeding is better now, it’s comfortable. It used to be painful and sore before but it’s good now.
“When she breastfeeds she is touching and holding on to me. It’s a really nice experience and way to bond,’’ she added.
Chiedozie, a single mother who lives in Chadwell Heath in Essex, said she makes sure she is always watching her daughter when she is feeding herself.
She said: “Sometimes I hold her or sometimes you can prop her up with a pillow and give her the bottle. I’m always watching her, I don’t let her out of my sight.’’ (NAN)

Babies can hold their bottles at this age. My first child held his bottle with his fingers wrapped around at 5 days and was feeding himself. He would also hold his head up unsupported at 2 days it was incredible!

Ahh, how lovely. Bottle fed baby doesn't even get held while feeding. Soon we will just put babies in boxes and tube feed them - that'll make them "independent". Sad story.

She does state that she Breast feeds, (not that its anyones business)... Everyone has different parenting skills and so why do people feel need to be so negative on such a positive piece.... At least she not neglecting the baby.

I bet people are as completely amazed,as I am ,that other people commented that their child did exactly the same thing when they were three days old.By the way my first child grabbed the bottle and fed himself as soon as his head was out during birth.

Oh that's going to be a huge issue when she burps and aspirates and then chokes. Also, nothing to be proud of, a new born shouldn't ever have the chance to hold their own bottle. A new mother should hold the bottle, gazing at the baby and enjoy that feeding time! Also, watch out for ear infections, if she continues to feed while laying down, she'll surely get them!

Expert opinions are good, but let the mother decide what she wants. After all the doctors and nurses were amazed each time she visited the clinic.

For those complaining, wat if its her breast milk that she pumps into d container and watches while d baby takes it..
The baby can only suck in air if d container is empty, thats y d mother is always there to supervise
